A friend of mine is part of a ragtag, Dreamcast hacking group. They do things like port games, reprogram them and so on. I don't know much about computers or programing, but I do know quite a bit of Japanese. We've decided to combine our talents and capatalize on our skills. We plan to reprogram imported Japanese games with English translation patches, but I thought I should ask this forum first, considered how many of you seem knowledgable, plus I'm also afraid this maybe considered piracy. Our first project will be 21 Two One. Our plan is to buy the discs, and sell them again at a slightly higer price with an extra disc, that we madem that has the translation patches. People would our disc in, it would load the patches and say, "Please insert game". People would then put what ever game they bought and be able to play it in English. So, I'm asking if there is anything wrong with this. Is this piracy or plagerism in anyway?

but we'd be buying the discs strait from Princess Soft. And we'd sell the disc along with our disc. Princess Soft would still get money for it's product. How is it piracy?

hey ur messing with the discs, doing wutever to them, and then selling them at a higher price, its piracy, its piracy because ur screwing with the coding and then selling them. let me ask u a question alrite, do u import the games when they first come out and then sell them months ahead of release dates in america? if so im gonna laugh when i hear about u getting arrested and sent to a federal prison or something and u et sued or wutever

pretty ,uch, the only way to avoid this being piracy is to write up the company that made the game and ask for permission. then, you'd have to buy the rights to the english translation. a bunch of paper work yadda yadda and you then would be able to avoid the whole pirating thing.

Don't forget the royalties or the licensing fees you're going to have to pay in order to actually sell the game. And yes, the best possible answer you can get is probably asking Princess Soft about you doing so.

This is piracy if no contact is made with the owner or the holder of copyrights of the game.

You might even try to present your idea to Princess Software directly and see if they are willing to partner with you for the American business you would bring them.

Any other way you go about this, you are going to get caught and kiss your freedom good-bye.

Trust me, these companies have people whose jobs are to find and prosecute boot-leggers. It's not worth it my friend.
