When I was in 9th grade (about 6 years ago), I heard J-pop for the first time, and thought it was pretty interesting. Then the year after that, Kpop came in my life and blew everything else away. Kpop just has so much to offer that appeals to me....singing, rapping, catchy melodies, an exotic language, pumpin' beats, sampling/remixing, all brought together.

More specifically, Korean dance/clubbing music, is pretty solid (like by Turbo, S#arp, Lee Jung Hyun). Korean love ballads are also really cool. Korean hip-hop is pretty edgy, and ranges from hardcore gangstah rap (like Drunken Tiger) to fun, catchy stuff (like Tashannie's "Kyunggo" which I can't stop listening to).

As for Korean music in DDR, I think you're referring to the version of DDR 4th Mix with Lee Jung Hyun's two popular songs, Wah and Bakkwo. I dunno "why" they are there, but I think I read somewhere that that particular version of 4th Mix is the Korean version of DDR. Likewise, the Korean version of Drummania is called Percussion Freaks, and the Korean version of Para Para Paradise is called Para Para Dancing (and features some techno-remixed versions of Kpop songs).
Yeah, some Korean-made animations are breaking into the US. I haven't seen Medabots but I've seen pictures of it.

If anyone is interested in more serious/dramatic/high-tech Korean animations, check out the site for Wonderful Days. I have the MPEG preview trailer for it, and it looks pretty nuts. The characters don't look like anime style, but there's a lot of computer graphics in the futuristic industrial settings, reminding me of Final Fantasy.

I -love- SES! Especially Dreams Come True and Eternal Love!! Those are the only two K-Pop songs I ever heard.

That's all? Listen to more! There are lots of sub-categories of Kpop to try out, but if you liked SES, then you should get more of their songs. Their debut hit song "I'm Your Girl" is about seven years old already, but it's still my favorite song of theirs. SES already broke up last year, but the middle member Eugene has her own album out. Her voice is more mature than Sea's (the lead singer of SES).

Some of the older stuff (past 7 years or so) including groups like H.O.T. and Shinhwa, which were the two most popular boybands in Korea. They sing, rap, dance, and boast good looks (main reason why lots of girls like em). A lil more on the hip-hop side is the group G.O.D. (Groove OverDose), another successful band that's been around for years. But my favorite male singers are/were Brown Eyes (two guys). They were probably the most popular male R&B singers when they came out. (They've broken up already, although one of them now sings in a group called Brown Eyed Soul). I love their song "Buhl Ssuh Il Nyun" (aka "Already One Year").

There are lots of girl groups. The older/experienced ones include Chakra, Cleo, and Baby VOX (they do mostly dance pop or love songs). But my favorite female duo would have to be As One; their first album was okay, their second one was excellent (a lot of catchy love songs), their third one was their worst. They also have two other albums, including a Christmas one which is pretty good (and all in English!). I should tell you though, that their style is "light R&B," and I like them cuz their voices are really airy, feathery-soft and gentle. To me, it's unique in Korean R&B.

Then there are clan groups, which I describe as, a whole bunch of performers of the same record label all working on the same song/album. YG Family is a popular hip-hop one, and SM Town (artists under SM Entertainment, which is the top music label in Korea). S.E.S., H.O.T., BoA, Dana, and M.I.L.K. are some of the artists in SM Town. BoA is pretty much Korea's biggest female pop star, and you can try her music if you want. I personally don't like listening to mainstream artists/music, so even though she's "the best," I prefer not to get into her.

Here are a few galleries of most of the popular groups/singers.

EDIT: I've been listening to my collection, and here are more reccommendations...

KISS - "Without You" (It's a really really nice love song with acoustic guitar, and the trippy thing is that it's completely in English even though it's three Korean women.)

KISS - "Yuh Ja Eeh Nee Kka (Because I'm a Girl)" (Another great love song, but extremely sad; the music video for this song was absolutely the sadness thing I've ever seen in my entire life--took me nearly a year to gain the courage to watch/listen to it again.)

Tashannie - "Kyunggo (Don't Bother Me)" This was a really popular hip-hop/dance/pop song, by two female rapper/singers. It has a serious, femine coolness to it (like Salt N Peppa) but fun without being too wild.

Tashannie - "Haru Haru" My favorite love song from Tashannie. A male duo also sing this song, but this version has a nice combination of acoustic guitar and laidback drum beat, a lost-love kind of melody, a tender French speaking intro, and gentle English rap. Heheheh, who says hip-hop can't be meaningful?

As One - "The Promise," "A Girl's Dream," "Day By Day," "Mama," and pretty much all of their songs on their second album! "Day By Day" was their very tender love hit with a beautiful melody (unlike other people with their bland-sounding ballads).
