Do we have any Dirty South/West Coast people in here? It seems to be mostly rock/alt stuff (typical of anime fans, but you never know).

I listen to rap every now and then, when the mood hits me. Although, I'm more prone to east coast rap. Even though I live in LA and all. LOL.

    Outkast
    DMX
    Busta Rhymes

It's really usually just them. But, I'd go for some Snoop, Dre, Tupac, Biggie whenever the mood hits me and I find their CD.

The only credit I can give to Eminem is that he is one of the few rappers who talk about things other than sex, and money. That seems to be a unifying theme to rap. As for music I enjoy that is rap....Outkast's "Hey Ya" is as far as I delve into anything close to rap.

Okay, Mordeth and Kain, I think we all saw your first posts to this regard. Why repeat yourselves?
For the record, though, you are right in that MOST rap is total garbage. "Studio gangsters" (or wanksters, as 50 Cent called them) just really piss me off. If you asked me, if you haven't been shot, haven't done time in jail and haven't lived in a house or apartment with less than four bedrooms any time in the recent past, you have no right to pretend you know what life on the street is like.
Overall, rap is too political. The "artists" are always arguing over whose side is better, and then they get in fist fights or gun fights or drivebys and someone either gets hurt or dies. It's almost a microcosm for the rest of the world. Still, there's a lot of people out there who think they have to hate one musician because some other one does.
Really, though, if you can get past all the Nashville-esque glam, rap isn't all bad.

Heheheh! Here we go again! We already had two other threads debating rap music. But anyway, "Hey Ya" by Outkast is sung, not rapped. (It's like saying, "the only country song I listen to is Cry Me A River by Justin Timberlake" when it's not even a country song.) And some people actually think Sean Paul is belongs under hip-hop!

As for the thread topic, I listen to some kinds of rap, as well as other kinds of hip-hop (turntablism, breakbeats, urban freestyle dance, etc.). For mainstream rap on the radio, I don't really distinguish whether it's Eastcoast, dirty South, or Westside type. Well, it's obvious that Ludacris is from the South (cuz one of his songs I liked was "Southern Hospitality"). I also like his new song "Stand Up." I like Nelly cuz his he can sing/rap in a higher tone than everyone else.

The only thing that I listen to that could be considered rap, or at least partially rap, would be some Linkin Park. I mean, it's not like it's solely rap, that's more or a rap-rock-techno type thing.

Also I've listened to the "It's All About The Benjamins" song several times to hear Dave Grohl's contribution to the song.

And, Eminem raps about sex, too. ;P Only his references to sex deal with celebrity page-turners and homosexuals.
