The Unicorn Chronicles are a lot like a shoujo/fantasy anime. ^^; I love those books. XD

    Hermann Hesse's Demian

    Hey!

I really liked Herman Hesse's book, Demian. It's about this guy named Emil Sinclair, and his frined Demian, who leads him on as Emil answers all those questions that are in our soul....you know...stuff about religion, and identity..and maybe I'm talking too much..... but it's good reading is the point.

(And, it reminds me of Evangelion. You can insert Shinji as Emil, and that Kaoru as Demian...and so on.)

A bit of thread necromancy here...

Some other suggestions are the Tales Of The Otori by Lian Hearn (the first book being titled Across The Nightingale Floor and the second is Grass For His Pillow. I don't know the name of the third, which has yet to be released). Can be compared to basic ninja/samurai anime, considering the insertion of 'powers' that some characters have.

Also a series that has grown on me thus far, with only two books, is what I've dubbed the Noble Dead series by Barb and J.C. Hendee (the first book being Dhampir, the second called Thief Of Lives). A story of a Dhampir (Magiere, pronounce Ma-GEAR) and Half-Blood (Half-Elf, named Leesil), a duo of hunters (along with Leesil's faithful pooch, Chap) that, for one reason or another in each book, have to hunt down a group of Dead (Vampires). The third book, Sister Of The Dead, is due out in January. Not really directly linked to anime it would seem but a lot of people that I know that have enjoyed these books are anime fans, so.. y'know.
