    eep. good question.

LCL (in the plug anyway) seems to have existed solely for the purpose of freaking Shinji out the first time he climbs in Eva (conveniently with no one telling him about the LCL until it starts to envelop him).

After that you just don'thear much about it. Again, in the plug. You hear a ton about it and where it comes from etc, but its presence in the plug is ignored, even by the animators if they are drawing tears falling. bleh.

    act 1:
person a (bemused): hehe look at this weird thing!
person b (amused): whoa, hadn't noticed that
person c (superior): it's animation, who cares
person b (bemused): you win I guess

Seriously though, can anyone think of a time when LCL in the plug comes into play (has any significance) after ep 1?

Theres a point in the show (i can't remember the episode) but when he gets traped inside the angel for six hours the stuff starts to get contaminated. So it plays the very important role of almost killing him.

Which is something that i would pay money to see :anime: ....Shinji dead :anime: :anime: :anime:

It's the same reason why no one's hair looks like it's floating in a liquid

I just find it a little silly how people look at the tiny things that are not very interesting and are just mistakes when they could look at all the really interesting details.

For example after *SPOILERS* Misato takes out all the soilders who were going to kill Shinji when they go to her car, the parking space next to Shinji is marked spot 667, so Shinji is in the 666 parking space. :dizzy2: Or how the mask on Lillith has 7 eyes, and unit 00, 01 and 02 if you add up all their eyes then it also adds up to 7. Or how 01 is based on the Babalyonian demon Unicron (not Transformers) since Unicron had a horn.

But I think that the crying part was just a glitch that nobody thought of, that why I don't think very much of it.

Yes!! I forgot about that. very good post. And I wouldn't mind seeing him croak either (esp considering his performance in EoE hehe. Poor Shinji, even fans pick on him :p

I think it also shows up when Bardiel (the 13th angel) gets mashed. If you've seen it, you know what I mean.

yeah, and it's never yellow tinged in there like I'd think it would be if it was full of LCL.. heh

hehe true enough. Shinji in the first episode: "What's happenin*blub* *blub*." Shinji in all the other episodes: "listen to me talk in a normal voice even though I'm in liquid."

So unless it's involved with the plot, it's like it's not there.. Not really so bad I guess. It would be a little gross to see them floating in blood plasma all the time. Fun stuff :D

Well it also happened during Asuka's eye mishap in EoE, blood trickled downwards

    Could be one answer;
Seeing it said during the instrumentality that people could come back from there own & others visionments of themselves (Rei called them bonds) it could be that the LCL is only acting according to how people think, normally blood/tears go down so there concept of gravity happened because it was LCL... a really good example would be after the Zerual fight (Ribbon armed git) when Shinji was absorbed into the Eva... he was wearing his school uniform when he went in, but it was a plug suit that was floating about for that is what he normally associates him wearing when he is inside the plug. If they thought it was water (As shinji did in episode 1) then there hair would float about/blood dilute upwards but they would also drown so the amount of times they were in it they forgot it as water.

Should be fairly obvious, I'd imagine. This'd indicate that LCL is not a particularly dense or heavy liquid.

Which would make a lot of sense in terms of it's functionality. After all, it would be a much greater strain on the body to inhale and exhale a heavy liquid like water. However, if LCL was very light and thin, it would be far easier for the pilots to adjust to being fully immersed in it for extended periods.

Then again... why LCL should conform to realistic rules and standards of logic when so much of Evangelion blatantly does not is beyond me... XD

when the eva starts up you cant see the LCL anyway so maybe the eva system shows a dry environment using holograms or some other media?

    Just a guess honest

That would be a ridiculous waste of power and actually make it more difficult for the pilots since visual senses and tactile senses would be experiencing different things.

You do know it is possible to "breathe" liquids like water if it's handled properly, right? Scientists have done it with rats, and one time they even had to make a baby do it for a short while.

As far as speech goes, that would indicate that either
    a) LCL fluid is so "thin" it does not disrupt speech in any manner.
    b) Aural distortions are corrected by the computer.

Have we ever seen someone actually talk (NOT in inner monologue) while in the Eva with no power? I think we have but I'm not entirely sure and I can't be buggered to check every single episode. But anyway if we have seen them talk without distortions despite the lack of power, that would indicate that option a is more correct.

Aye. Check this old thread about real life LCL for a more in depth look at what Neph is talking about. I'm trying to imagine what it might sound like to try and speak in it, and I'm not having any success :D
