Board and Card Games Rummie the card game

I was wondering how you all play it. Besides the basics with sets.

For my group we play to 1,000 or 500.

2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 are 5 points.
A is 15
10, J, K, Q are 10 points
Any wild are 20 points

Points are earned by what you lay down at the end of the game. And points are taken away by what you have in your hand.

A player can only go out if they put a card in the throw pile. If not they are floating when they can't put a card on the throw pile and the game continues until that person can throw one away or another goes out.

You take up to the card you place and you must place that card down.

I know there are like more different rules then this. I was wondering do any other people follow these or similar?

 

I am confused.
My friends all play this game and I just sit there and am v. confused.
I am just wondering how you play, like do you just grab from the deck or what?
