This is roughly based on Akira Kurosawa's pop movie, "The Seven Samurai".

This anime is actually set in the future, where bandit cyborgs have pretty much taken over the countryside. (Think Terminator)

Three peasants set out to the city to find help from the Samurai, with the rice they grow as a reward for those who help them.

I do remember seeing Akira Kurosawa's name on the opening credits, so I don't doubt that he's had a hand in the production of this anime.

What I like about this is that, it actually works pretty well. It's not just a "resetting", as much as a "retelling". They changed some characters around a bit, and the actual backdropping works well.

Has anybody else seen the few episodes that have been released? I do recommend it, as it's worth it.

I guess nobody would want to see something like this.

Anyway, gonna bump this up to the top, seeing as it's in the second page. Also, here's a picture of one of the 7.

That's Kannbei, the "main" samurai. He's been reluctant to fight because whenever he fights, he seems to win battles, but lose the war.

I have 4 episodes on my HDD, I just saw the first episode last night, pretty good stuff! I can't wait to see more, the animation is very fluid and there's some awesome cg in it. I want to see some more sword swinging action ^___^
I didn't forget this thread, I just wanted to watch all 4 before posting..

edit: Watched the 4 I have: WOW! The animation is superb.. the story is great.. the action is awesome. and the intro 'Unlimited' sung by Nanase Aikawa is really nice, as well as the ending by Rin "Fuhen". Neat stuff! Can't wait for more!

I thought it was a neat part when Kanbei was fighting Kyuuzou and said 'I'm in love..." Kyuuzou gasped then Kanbei added "with your skills!"

I'm planning to download the so far released episodes after I'm done with Naruto, since Izzy recommended it to me. The fact Nanase Aikawa sings the opening makes me look foward to it muchly.

I saw the first 4 episodes since they are out now, I am kind of waiting for the 5th, no big deal, its not that great to me, maybe because I am so hooked up with Naruto.

I get tired when I like more than 1 anime at once :p

If this is what I think it is...wasn't there a game released about...a month or 2 ago titled " The Seven Samurai 20XX?" It could be the same story, but I dont know.

No, it's not the same people who make it.

But, it IS based off the same story by Akira Kurosawa.

And niether the anime nor the game have much to do with each other, other than closely resembled names.

After watching the first 4 today I must say that it seems quite promising. Story so far seems reasonable. The characters are likeable... (Kyuzo reminds me of Spike from CB except yellow hair). And the general feel and music used is typical Japanese, which particularly generates good suspense whenever they fight. (most notably the upbeat drumming used)

So, I'm looking forward to episode 5...

lol that was a funny scene :p So many people are reading too much into it

so I watched up to the episode 10, which is my favorite episode so far, *points at her siggy* Its startling to see Heihachi look really beautiful..

He reminds me of Kakashi from Naruto

I've seen upto episode 10 with 9 being my favourite mainly because we finally see some action. Though the story is now underway, it is pretty slow start (for me anyway) but nonetheless good.

Btw, is it just me but did some of the art in episode 7 (episode when they meet Shichiroji) seem... badly done?

No it wasn't just you. The part where he is dancing was a rushed job of just lines. I've seen this in other parts. I'm not sure if its some form of style they which to convey in the anime at certain parts though. Looked very tricked out eh?

That guy had to look really rough in episode 7, that's why it was more a rush of lines (can anyone say Shin-chan? =P)
But I love it... and now we see how they can cut up the mechs in a believable way (unlike the first episode, where Kambei cleaved a mech in one slash...) by cutting off the arms and legs (thin joints)

Yes Kyuuzou did look like Kakashi in that episode, though, Kakashi has this sleepy look in his eye, while Kyuuzou has this "I hate you and I'm gonna kill you here and now" look ;)

Kyuuzou is very huggable isn't he? He's so misunderstood I tell you!

Considering it cost 35,000,000 Yen per episode (according to a 'anime news network') I expected better from Gonzo who usually have fantastic art. Mind you, that figure intially made my eyes drop out, I didn't half think that an anime EPISODE will cost that much.

Yes, Kyuuzou is misunderstoood but he is still seen with mudererous intentions... and though he has joined the group I see unfinished business between him and Kambei.

I actually liked the ep. 7 animation. It was more fluid and chaotic, so there's a certain level of smoothness to it. The basic animation is a more traditional style of anime...so it's good to see it change a bit every now and then.

I doubt he had a direct influence on this one - he's dead

(I also saw his name in the credits and assumed the same thing so no worries)

I never saw the original "the seven samurai" but add cyborgs to anything and it'll be semi cool at least

I saw eps 3-6 at a con recently and i was really impressed - The story is too slow for me to worry about downloading it anytime soon but if i get the chance i will be buying it.

As long as they won't overbudget like they did with Hellsing...
After a while, they had to transfer a whole chunk of the series to a Korean studio to have cheaper production... XP

I've only started getting into this now, while i'm waiting for the rest of Samurai Champloo and Girls Bravo to be released. I really like the story of the Seven Samurai and so far i'm quite impressed with this retelling of the story. some of the cg is quite impressive and althouh theres not been much action so far (i'm only at episode 3 ^^) i'm once again hooked on the story line.

I hate it when animes have recap episodes. They are so boring and It just makes me so mad. But Champloo did cool by me in 12. If that makes sense.
