Japanese Saying "and" in Japanese?

This may sound like a really silly question, but when I see Japanese on the internet, it is nearly all nouns, and never the simple words used to constuct sentences, such as "and" or "the". So what I would be really interested to know is how do the Japanese say "and", or is there more than one way? If so, what is the difference?

 

to - is and when connecting two nouns
soshite - and and then is used when connecting clauses or words.

those are what I know could be more than that

edit: ni can also be used as and when listing recalling or restating items.

Well, from what I know, "A to B" (A and B) or... "A. Soshite, B." (A. And B).
I find it about that simple...

 

So "soshite" and "to" can both be used in the same context (to connect 2 nouns)?

 

'Soshite' is one of many ways to connect two sentences. Somewhat like saying 'And doing(being) that,' at the beginning of a sentence.

well the main thing is the . . . と.

 

と "to" is the basic and. So look for that if you're after that specific meaning.

Also, using か "ka" after an object and preceeding another object means "or". Therefore its logical (and true) that saying both together とか "to ka" means "X or/instead of Y".

You have to find international text input. Normally a character map is used.

 

wait! you guys are forgetting "sorekara"!

Sorekara is like saying 'and then'... but if I remember right it's only used for objects and not living things... I think.... I can't quite remember....

I am pretty sure he's mistaking "sore kara" for "sorekara". sore kara does mean, "and then", but it's two words.

 

"and" is "to" in Japanese. You use it to connect nouns but it can't be used to connect to sentences. "ya" also means "and" but you use it when you're saying something like "here we have things such as_____ AND_______AND_______AND______." I think.

"and" in japanese really depends on what you are using it for.

Nouns:
1) If you are listing EVERYTHING, then use "to".
2) If you are NOT listing everything, then use "ya".

Adjectives:
-use the "-te" form of the adjective (i-adj= [-i +kute])
-use "shi" after the adjective (na-adj= [-na +shi])

Verbs:
1) Use the "-te" form of the verb to connect other verbs.
2) Use "shi" after each verb, but the sentence MUST end with shimasu.

Situation:
soshite = and then (MUST be in order. ex: A and then B)
sore kara = and then (MUST be in order)
