all this crap about there be a certain way to post and all has me wondering. what and where are the rules to "proper" posting? i personally think that however you want to post as long as it isn't harrassing or spam if fine(there being some exceptions.) i just wanna know what is thought on this and if such rules exist.

I think you basically said it all. As long as we don't spam, or harrass anyone in the community, we can post any way we like.

Fair enough, Bloodberry. I think we should all respect each other's right to freedom of speech. Of course you're always going to hit shaky ground because there's not a single thing you can say that isn't going to offend somebody but you can't spend your whole life worrying about that. This forum has a reasonably good atmosphere as is, and after a while you start to get the hang of checking who's posts are worth reading and who's aren't. I don't think there's a right and wrong other than that we shouldn't go out of our way to be mean.

Yeah I guess we should all respect one another's opinions, and just feel comfortable saying what we want to... unless it is something derogatory or racist, etc. People should also try to keep away from spammin, ie. treating a thread like a chat room and going off topic or advertising... oh, and also just posting to raise your post count for custom titles is frowned upon.

Is it? I seem to recall a thread along the lines of "who will reach the most posts first" and DL even said that I was jealous of my inferior post number. You can't say with a straight face that post count is used as a status symbol on this board. Personally I think rewarding post count is like handing someone an order to spam. It should be based entirely on time is spent on the boards whether your title changes, not how much you can reply to.

Well just dropping a smily, and random stuff to be able to reach 250 posts is frowned upon. We have been discussing it a bit for a while now in the admin, but that is a good idea to make it a reward for being on the board a certain amount of time too...

Well im sure that ive not offended to many ppl with my Swearing on the chat because im sure id have heard by now.. I mean as long as ppl get along with one another.. why not post anything you want to say.. but at least say something instead of one word!.. And i dont see what the big fuss about the post count is.. we had one bad apple.. he is gone.. so who cares anymore!

I agree that spam should not be rewarded, and our custom title (to which you indirectly comment upon) here at m2a is based on both posts and a time lapse...

I know I myself am far from a good example, but you've pretty much all hit upon what is a good post...

Think of it this way. If you feel unusre about whether your post is good or not, it's most likely not. Common sense is all it takes...and where that doesn't work, we have our team to let you know when you've stepped out of bounds.

Don't look at me, I'm the one that been challenged here and I'm not taking apart of it. I'm just posting as I usually do and I hope you guys dont view it as 'spamming'

Anyway, I agree with Kame that its better to say something that to stick a smily or just say one word. I hate it when someone replies with "i dont know" =S

I really only post if I have something to say, as a rule. The only crappy single word post I remember having made was just to annoy Legato, which is always worthwhile:p :p :p !

Maybe that's why my post count is so pathetically low.

I assume you realise that that was a joke.
I never reply with just one word answers, and I never reply unless I think I have something to add to the thread, even if it is just a (perhaps crappy) joke. And I try to avoid offending people, because, that's just not polite.

SORRY TOOMAA!!!!!!!!!!!!! I answer this to you a lot ne?!
Sorry also to everyone... i'v been posting pointless replys for nearly a month ne?! Really stupid things like we should love each other or something like that... but the truth it's that i don't want to be apart, all my life i felt this way, dun wanna feel this any more... I'm sure everyone here hates to be apart too ne? ANd also because it's better to receive an answer like "dun no" than nothing... I posted a thread here long ago about SM, no one answered:(... After that i really got sad(i'm roo dramatic:))...
Ps to Ps(hehehe): Sorry bloodberry, but i had to post this here:)

Pretty much like everyone said, no spams and pointless replys. For me spams are something like:
"Come to my site" those really annoy me ( if you saw the italian thread, you saw how much this annoys me)!!!
BTW, if you want you can say this is a spam reply...

chupito, no need to apologize.!. Everyone has their own reasons on why they have to post thier own post. For example, if you don't know much about a certain topic and anyway u posted at that thred. You're reason for posting is to show the author of the threat that you have read his/her thread and cared enough to reply.
The issue of spamming has bothering alot of members. Some posts that you think are thoughtful may be considered as spamming. Some spam posts that I have seen have bothered me, but I would not take action upon it or tell the person who had posted it that "u r spamming" (except in the situation that person's abusing his/her privilage by posts are all smilies or one word -- then I'll step up)
What Im trying to say is that keep the spamming to a minimum and if u think that the what you are going saying is not necessary or not related to the topic, then by all means dont post...

Just to settle confusion in the matter: you should all post like me.

Seriously though, spam is not liked. Post count is respected here because there is relatively little spam, as it is usually quashed. As a result, higher post count generally means more 'non-spam' posts. That's the idea anyway.. ha

Lately I have taken to posting when I actually truly care about the subject. I have been moving away from posting for the sake of having my voice heard. Not saying I used to spam, I usually felt I had something to say. It's just that I used to say stuff about things that I didn't really care about. Anyway, my posting has taken a nose dive lately. I need to get some interests (or reawaken some) or I think or I'll drop off completely :(

Ugh.. what was the point of this? I think maybe I just typed a whole lot to show that I don't spam. That would nullify the previous paragraph though. I'm so confused. Back to my hole

This is going to be one of my last posts on this forum...
If you are going to control every single thing i wrote then is bye, one of the things i like on internet, is that no one can control what you say... I remember saing we could say whatever we want, but the only rule was not hurt each other... Can someone say to me WHAT is spam? Do you all have the same definition? I wrote something on RK forum, that they told me was spam... That "spam" was MY opinion, my opinion din“t hurt anyone, did they? If they, did I'm sorry wasn't mi intention. I'm not expecting any answer to this post, but if you want it's okay. On legato's thread we talked about it, didn't we? I'm really gonna stop posting messages here:( i don't want to, but one of the things i love the most is fredom of speech. Now we have to write, in every songle post, 15 lines less than this is spam, right? I wrote my ******* opinion there, if it's not welcome all you need to do is say to me... I'm not asking much, am i? I'm tired of everyone tring to control me, if you don't like me or what i say than talk to me! Yes, i'm against spams, but that post was really a spam? I don't think so. Maybe i will keep reading posts but never gonna post one again. BEFORE you start this control of spams thing you could tell me, one of the things i don't like is being a outsider, and i know no one does! I'm not mad at zanza for being the one who told i was spaming around...
but you all know my opinion.
I think this is bye, or maybe not

Chupito, I don't know why you are so bothered about this incident. I was told by others in an indirect way that I was spaming. Anyway, that doesnt mean that when someone tells you that you're spaming that you have to leave the board. TO LEAVE US :( Its moderators duty is to advice or inform the members about their actions. So don't get upset about it .. Its not worth it!

<hugs> Love you Chupito, and don't be afraid to share something with us. We are a family here... :)

yeah thanks for saying that Chupito :) I wouldn't want you to leave for sure because all of your comments in the Kenshin forum are great!

But like Tomaa said, it's the mods job to oversee their forum and advise members if they are doing something wrong that may affect other members. And some spam and some posts can affect other members and may hurt them, or totally make their mind go blank when they are looking through a topic.

Sure you can say whatever you want ;) But some topics should have their own thread or there will be chaos. I don't know if I would consider it spam or not, but the only thing I have trouble with is when people start a totally new topic within another that is unrelated. But then some people just want to post in a random thread advertising long distance or some "naughty" site, or saying "yo *member* how are you doing, why aren't you on MSN now?!?!"... now that is spam in my opinion. I don't think that it matters whether you put an entire essay per post or just a few words, as long as they have something to do with the topic then it's cool ;)

Chupito, actual spam is something that happens very rarely here. I am talking only serious, obvious spam. No one likes that. That doesn't mean we want to control everything, we just don't like bad spam. I have never seen any spam come out of you.

There is also nothing that says 15 lines or less is spam. It is easy to say things with less than that. Seriously, no one is looking at posts and counting the number of lines. IMHO, spam is only a problem when someone posts over and over and over and has nothing at all to say. I could dig up an example or two (and there aren't manymore than that)

In the end, it's like Bloodberry said. We shouldn't all be worrying aout 'how to post.' All are welcome to post here. Hope you don't stay away too long.

My question is - and Legato is banned from answering this - why is everyone so terrified of Legato?????? He has NO real power in this forum.

Legato, the way this forum was used before WE got here may be boring to you - and some others - but that was the order of the forum and nobody dares mess with the order because it is the ORDER! It is the most important part of this SOCIAL forum! You were the one that brought us here and I for one liked the forum the way it was! Others may not agree with my opinion but I don't care and they are entitled to their opinion on a subject - including my opinions - from whatever point of view they have! The feedback they give can give me - or someone else - a greater insight into a subject!

You may be my friend Legato but in this case, follow your own advice and "Why don't you just shut up?"

Anyone may make comment on this post, except Legato (making me sound a bit of a hypocrit) who will probably complain to me in person!
