    SCROLL
    NARRATOR

The war continues even now. If one were to suggest that the
history of mankind is the history of war, few would disagree.

If there is such a concept as "progress" for mankind, no one can
say that "progress" is not a result of war.

Maybe mankind is a creature that will continue to fight until the
    last one lies dead.

During war, huge quantities of blood, tears and wisdom are
squandered. People's dreams and hopes burst aflame.

But, in any age, there are those who have the desire to change the
    world, for better or worse.

To assess how those heroes changed the world, perhaps can't be
entrusted to the people of that age, because the accounts of
historians and the values of mankind change with the times.

But a few ambitious people left their mark, and their names were
burned into the pages of history.

    These people are called... "heroes".

    OPERATOR

Your Excellency, here is your status report.

Our fleet will arrive at the Iserlohn Fortress as scheduled.

    All ships report nominal status.

    REINHARDT

    Thank you.

Request permission to dock with the fortress.

    OPERATOR

    Yes, Sir.

Admiral Reinhardt von Museal's Imperial Expedition Fleet
will arrive at 3:27 Imperial Standard Time.

    Requesting permission to dock.

    MUCKENBERGER

(Fleet Admiral Gregor von Muckenberger, Age 50's) <-
At last, the admiral under the skirt ventures out.

The Empire has hit rock bottom.

    FLEGEL

    (Baron Flegel, Age: 24) (LEFT)
    You are quite right.

An untalented boy is an admiral, commanding a fleet just
because the Emperor favors his sister.

Something is wrong with the Empire's promotion standards.

    MUCKENBERGER

Favoritism is nothing new in the Empire.

But it's strange for a member of the nobility to say such
    a thing.

    Isn't that so, BARON?

NOTE: Alternate title for Baron Flegel would be during the next line.

    FLEGEL

It would seem that the Fleet Admiral dislikes me. <-

So why do I get the privilege of keeping you company?

    MUCKENBERGER

I myself never enter the battlefield, and someday I will
    return to the Empire.

If so, your favorite tricks will become necessary, Baron.

Shall we say, it's for the sake of that future?

    FLEGEL

At least I'm more important to you than that Admiral.

    MUCKENBERGER

Why should I welcome a boy who was promoted by a woman's
power, even if she is his sister.

I dislike that sort of man, he annoys me.

    He must be eliminated.

    FLEGEL

    Going too far is forbidden.

That man is dangerous just because he's His Majesty's pet.

    MUCKENBERGER

But at least this fortress is under my command.
He is no more than a mere Admiral...

    Am I wrong?

    FLEGEL

If you say so, it is as you say,
    Your Excellency Fleet Admiral.

    REINHARDT

(Admiral Reinhardt von Museal, Age: 19)
    Kircheis, we've arrived.

    KIRCHEIS

    (Captain Seigfried Kircheis, Age: 19)
    Yes, finally.

    REINHARDT

    But it's so small...

    KIRCHEIS

    Yes, sir.

That Fortress is less than a speck of dust in the
    vastness of space.

    REINHARDT

Yet people have been fighting over it for decades.

    KIRCHEIS

    And sacrificing millions of lives.

    REINHARDT

We'll bring that to an end. <-

    KIRCHEIS

    Yes. <-

Not only the fight for the fortress, but this 150 year
    galactic war.

    REINHARDT

Yes, soon we will end that as well.

    KIRCHEIS

    Yes.

    VOICE

    This is Iserlohn Fortress:
We have located possible enemy movement near the gas
    giant Legmiza.

    REINHARDT

    We're not concerned with that.

Our first objective is to arrive at the fortress.

This fleet is too valuable to be rised in a unnecessary
    battle.

    OBERSTEIN

(Captain Paul von Oberstein, Age: 34)
The intercept fleet is prepared to launch. <-

    MUCKENBERGER

    That won't be necessary.

It will be faster to use the Expedition Fleet rather than
    scramble one from the fortress.

    OBERSTEIN

That fleet just arrived from the Empire, the crew are weary.

On top of that most of them are recruits.

    MUCKENBERGER

    We're at war, Oberstein.

They're part of the Imperial Fleet. They exist to fight.

Order the Expedition Fleet to head for the planet,
    immediately.

    OBERSTEIN

    Yes, sir!

    FLEGEL

By this, you will be testing the abilities of the
    Admiral under the skirt?

    MUCKENBERGER

    No...

It is best to be rid of an uninvited guest before he can
    enter the door.

    VOICE

    An emergency order!

It's an order from Commander-in-Chief Fleet Admiral
    Muckenberger.

Expedition Fleet, proceed at once to Planet Legmiza.
Seek, locate and destroy enemy fleet.

    KIRCHEIS

So this is the fortress's idea of a welcoming gift?

    REINHARDT

How would you react to this order?

    KIRCHEIS

    You already know my answer.

    REUENTAL

(Rear Admiral Oscar von Reuental, Age: 28)
What do you think he will do? <-

    MITTERMEYER

(Rear Admiral Wolfgang Mittermeyer, Age: 27)
Orders must be obeyed. Even unreasonable ones. <-

At any rate, we've only just arrived.

We don't even know the actual situation.

    REUENTAL

To minimize casualties, he could deploy scouts and avoid
    a serious confrontation.

    MITTERMEYER

    Deploy scouts?

    Would he do that?

    REUENTAL

If he does, we'll always be known as "the staff of the
    admiral under the skirt".

    MITTERMEYER

Maybe "the staff caught in the stockings"?

    VOICE

Detailed data concerning the planet Legmiza has been received
from His Excellency the Admiral. Time allotted for data
investigation is 30 minutes. It is marked urgent.

    MITTERMEYER

    Detailed data?

As we thought, our Admiral is going to fight.

    REUENTAL

    I'd do the same.

    MITTERMEYER

    Me too.
There's no time to fool around.

C'mon, we might as well review the information he sent.

    VOICE

Planet Legmiza, a typical gas giant.

The upper atmosphere is primarily comprised of clouds of
    helium and hydrogen.

    REINHARDT

    Helium and hydrogen?!

    KIRCHEIS

    Yes.
The velocity of the atmospheric current is 2000 km/hr.
In these conditions, any radar or tracking device is almost
    useless.

    REINHADT

    So it's flying blind... literally.
We could meet the enemy at any time.

    KIRCHEIS

Yes, but the enemy is blind, too.

    VOICE

No sign of the enemy fleet.

    KURT

(Petty Officer 2nd Class Kurt, Age: 20's)
    What's the matter?

    TONIO

    (Spaceman Apprentice, Age: Mid-teens)
    We're on red alert!

    KURT

The enemy hasn't shown up yet. <-
If you tense up now, you'll get tired.

    TONIO

    You're used to it.

    KURT

    Huh?

    TONIO

    Used to war.

    KURT

Whether you're used to it or not, it's all the same.
When the order comes, we pull the trigger and fire.
    That's all it is.

    TONIO

This is my first battle. <-

    KURT

    Everyone has a first time.
The problem is, when will it end.
However, it's Mr. Famous up top who'll decide that, you see.

    TONIO

    Will we be okay?
Isn't this the fleet of "The Admiral under the Skirt"?

    KURT

    That's it, yeah.
The commander's background are no business of ours, as mere
    troops.
A "commander" to be believed in, is a guy who wins battles,
and saves as many of our lives as possible, even if it's
    only a few.
A person who understands the men under him.

    TONIO

    How's our commander?

    KURT

    I've never spoken with him.
I'm still alive, so he must be better than most.
Most of my friends who went to other fleets are dead, you see.

    TONIO

Am I lucky that I was assigned to this fleet?

    KURT

If you're still alive when the battle's over, then you can
    say you're lucky.

    TONIO

    Oh... yeah.

    KURT

Anyway, a soldier can't control his life.
It all depends on his commander.

    VOICE

Still no sign of the enemy fleet as yet.

    PAETA

    (Vice Admiral Paeta, Age: 40's)
Haven't we located the enemy fleet yet?

    YANG

    (Commodore Yang Wenli, Age: 28)
    Isn't that good?

Our mission is to evade the enemy,
approach the Iserlohn Fortress, and attack.

Don't we WANT to avoid the enemy fleet?

    PAETA

Commodore Yang Wenli, I am the commander of this fleet!

    YANG

I know that, but as Strategic Advisor, I must... <-

    PAETA

Please limit your advice to the conference room. <-

    This is the battlefield.

Strategies don't always pan out, if the enemy shows up,
    we'll crush them.

    YANG

    Yes, sir.

With your permission, my work is complete.

    PAETA

    It is.

Watch how an EXPERIENCED officer handles a real
    battle, not a computer simulation!

    YANG

    Yes, sir.
    I WILL.

    WELL, then.

    ATTENBOROUGH

(Lt. Commander Dusty Attenborough, Age: 26)
    Arguing with the commander again?

    YANG

    Not really...

If the commander doesn't want my advice, then fine.

At any rate, I said what I had to say, and earned my salary.

    ATTENBOROUGH

Then now it's just time to watch? <-

    I guess that's okay.

But I wouldn't want to die under a commander like him.

    Would you like some coffee?

    YANG

    No.

No, you know I don't like coffee.

Why do soldiers like such disgusting mud water?

    ATTENBOROUGH

I know perfectly well you only like tea.

    But won't you try this?

That, too, is part of the salary.

    YANG

    Oh yeah!

In that case, I'll have some.

    ATTENBOROUGH

Yeah, we won't have the guts for this sober.

    VOICE

Attention 2nd Fleet of the Alliance Forces

All ships ascend above cloud layer and scan for the enemy
    fleet.

As soon as the enemy is located, attack and destroy them.

    Good luck!

    ATTENBOROUGH

We don't even have time to drink.

    YANG

They're telling us to go do our job.

    Whoa!
    What lousy driving.

    ATTENBOROUGH

We can feel drunk before we drink, eh?

    YANG

    That's for sure.

    PAETA

The 2nd Fleet is now above the cloud layer.
    Confirm! Confirm! <diff. speaker>

    PAETA

    Eh? What... What is it?

    REINHARDT

    What...

    VOICE

    Ship signatures.
    Ship signatures.

    KIRCHEIS

    Position?

    OPERATOR

Thermal sensors detect many objects approaching.
    Enemy! Enemy! <diff speaker>

    PAETA

    Calm down, where are they?

    OPERATOR

    THERE!

    PAETA

    What?!

    OPERATOR

    Enemy ship readings...
    Directly ahead!
    Directly ahead!

    REINHARDT

    Begin firing!

Avoid colliding with the enemy ships and fire.

    Accelerate and attack.

    PAETA

    Start firing!

    Fire!

Ram them if you have to!

    VOICE

    All ships avoided collision.

    No damage.

    Shall we regroup?

    REINHARDT

    Current positions are fine.

All ships are to continue fighting under their own initiative.

    VOICE

Damage to our fleet is minimal.

    PAETA

    Minimal damage?!

    Of course!

    The enemy's not even scratched!

    We greatly outnumber them.

So why don't you smash into them!

We would win by sheer numbers!

    YANG

Who'd make a suicide attack these days?

    ATTENBOROUGH

Especially when HE would get the credit for it.

    OPERATOR

But both fleets are barely damaged.

    PAETA

    The enemy is a coward.

Why aren't they attacking us more?

    MITTERMEYER

This is a waste of ammo, but it's better than wasting lives.

    But HE doesn't waste anything...

    REUENTAL

    He's planning something.

But only that red-headed friend of his understands it.

    VOICE

Weapon discharges are causing the atmospheric temparatures
    to increase.

    KIRCHEIS

If the temperature rises, it will cause an updraft.

    REINHARDT

I don't like trusting my life to the winds...

    KIRCHEIS

It's a different story if we cause the wind.

    PAETA

    What's the matter?

    VOICE

    The winds have stopped.

Possibly because of the energy released during the battle.

    PAETA

Good, it will be easier to fight without the winds.

    We have the numerical advantage.

    YANG

    The wind stopped?

    REINHARDT

    All ships ascend,
    immediately!

    VOICE

Enemy fleet, making a rapid ascent!

    PAETA

    He thinks he'll escape?!
    After all this!?

    Now what?

    VOICE

    It's the wind!
    High winds!

    Wind velocity is 6000 km/hr.
Cold gasses are being pulled into the heated air mass.

    PAETA

Decend back into the cloud bank.

    YANG

    We mustn't!

    We should ascend.

All ships should leave the atmosphere of the planet.

    PAETA

    Shut up!

If we leave the atmosphere we'll be destroyed by the enemy!

    Can't you see that?!

    Inexperienced fool!

    YANG

Yes, we'll get shot at, BUT

    No...

You're the commander of this fleet...

    PAETA

    You're a pest!

    Dismissed!

    ATTENBOROUGH

    Why ascend?

    YANG

If I were the enemy, I could wipe out this fleet with
    a single shot.

    ATTENBOROUGH

    What?

    YANG

What's the composition of this planet's atmosphere?

    (Attenborough: Ah!)

    Yup.

    Helium and hydrogen.

    It only takes one match...

But I don't think anyone in the enemy fleet would think of it.

    REINHARDT

    Fire a nuclear fusion missile.

    KIRCHEIS

    Target: Planet surface.

    REINHARDT

    That's right.

    VOICE

    Enemy missile passing.

    No damage.

    PAETA

    What a bad shot!

    What are they aiming for?!

    ATTENBOROUGH

    Whoops...

    OPERATOR

    What are you doing?

    That's the ascent control!

    ATTENBOROUGH

    Sorry, just a bit dizzy.

    VOICE

80% of the Fleet is damaged or destroyed.

    PAETA

    It can't be...

    Such things can't...

    VOICE

    Strategic orders?

    PAETA

    All ships retreat.

    VOICE

    All ships, retreat at once.

    YANG

    His only good order...

    VOICE

    Enemy fleet retreating.

    REINHARDT

    Operation completed.

We will return to the Iserlohn Fortress.

    MITTERMEYER

    Beats me.

Have you ever seen such a bold tactic?

    REUENTAL

I'm glad he's not my enemy.

    KURT

    It's over.

    What's the matter....

    We were lucky today.

    YANG

So, there's an enemy commander who thinks like me.

    ATTENBOROUGH

If I hadn't been dizzy, we'd be dead.

    YANG

But, if I had INSISTED on ascending,
the other ships might have been saved, too.

    ATTENBOROUGH

    Don't worry about it.

You did the best you could with such a pig-headed commander.

On the other hand, the enemy...

    YANG

I wonder who it was who thought of that plan.

The commander of that white ship?

    VOICE

Iserlohn Fortress, Expedition Fleet has completed its mission.

    Please begin docking sequence.

    MUCKENBERGER

He's come this far, so I'll have to let him in.

    FLEGEL

    He's quite lucky.

    MUCKENBERGER

But how long will his luck last?

    VOICE

Expedition fleet, dock in sequential order using bays 8661
    through 9754.

    Confirmed.

    Acknowledged.

    MUCKENBERGER

I'll give you credit for defeating the enemy at Legmiza.

But the truth is that the weather was on your side.

Your victory was too dependant on luck for it to be
    considered distinguised service.

Remember, in space where the real battles are,
    there are no storms.

    REINHARDT

    Yes, Sir.

It is my intention to distinguish myself in a real battle.

    Sir.

    FLEGEL

No winds will be strong enough to strip the "Skirt" from
    his image.

    REINHARDT

It looks like they're offended by my reputation here as well.

    KIRCHEIS

Any promising student or athlete is always envied and bullied.

However, an insult to Annerose is unforgivable.

    REINHARDT

    True.

But I will not even dignify their insult with a reaction.

    POPLAN

(2nd Lieutenant [AirCorp] Oliver Poplan; Age: 24)
Okay, who'll win the next battle?
    The allies?
    The enemy?
    Place your bets!

    KONEV

(2nd Lieutenant [AirCorp] Ivan Konev; Age: 24)
    This one's for the Imperials,
and this one's for our side.

    VOICE

    I'll take this side.

    VOICE

    I'll go with this one.

    VOICE

    Me too...

    POPLAN

    What?

    There's more for the enemy.

Do you guys plan to die? <-

    KONEV

    No, Poplan.
Each one plans to be the sole survivor
and win all the money. <-

    POPLAN

If everyone does that, no one will die,
    and we'll end up winning.

    So I'll bet...
    on THIS side.

    YANG

    What are you guys doing?

    POPLAN

Would you like to join us, sir?

    YANG

    Is this enough?

    POPLAN

    Whew! That much?

    Which side, Sir?

    YANG

Which side will it be, eh?

I've got some things to do, so... see ya.

    POPLAN

    What'll we do with this?

    KONEV

Put it in the one you think'll win.

    POPLAN

I personally believe I will survive...

Which SIDE will win, I have no idea.

    PAETA

We only lost because of the rapid change in the weather.

I don't believe we made any mistakes in executing the
    operation.

Therefore, we should continue the attack on the
    Iserlohn Fortress.

    LOBOS

(Fleet Admiral Lazar Lobos; Age: 50's) FRAME 44246 <-
    Yes.

    ATTENBOROUGH

    War research again?

    YANG

    I'm at a loss.

I am trying to study history, but page after page of
"human history" is just so much of this...

It's full of fights and quarrels.

    I guess I can't deny that I'm studying war.

    ATTENBOROUGH

The official story is that we lost because of the weather.

    YANG

When we lose a battle they blame it on back luck,
    the battlefield, or the weather.

They forget that it's the MEN who are fighting.

    ATTENBOROUGH

Men decide the results of the battles.

    YANG

Yes, and now the enemy has that commander... the white ship.

    There are more.

    ATTENBOROUGH

"From the one girl who loves you"?

    They never stop do they?

    The fan mail.

    YANG

Postage isn't free, and paper is an important resource, too.

It's hard dealing with these fan letters.

It would be cruel to throw them away, but I can't do anything
    about it.

    ATTENBOROUGH

    Isn't it okay?

You don't have to avoid them.

You were the hero at the Battle of El Facile, seven years ago.

    YANG

That battle was a mistake for me.

Because of one victory, I'm hated by the older officers and
    I can't retire.

    ATTENBOROUGH

So, the allies need a young hero.

    YANG

The wages are too low for an advertising talent.

Well, I only have to do a day's work...
    in this foolish war.

    ATTENBOROUGH

Even in such a foolish war?

    YANG

    Don't say it...

Yes, for some time now, I've been thinking...
of a way to win this war.

Although a pig-headed commander would never approve such a plan.

    VOICE

Now hear this: At 1800 hours, we depart to conquer the
    Iserlohn Fortress. That is all.

    YANG

    How foolish.

    VOICE

An enemy fleet has been detected,
    planned intercept point Iserlohn Fortress.
Arrival time at Tiamat, tomorrow morning at 0930 hours.

    MUCKENBERGER

All ships at Iserlohn Fortress will launch and destroy
    the enemy forces.

Troops scheduled to sortie will be allowed liberty in
    the fortress until 0600 hours.

I'll be counting on you. Good luck and rest well.

Allthough he has just recently arrived, I am assigning
Admiral Reinhardt von Museal's fleet to the left wing
    of the interception fleet.

    VOICE (VA 1)

The left wing, to THAT Admiral?

    VOICE (VA 2)

    It can't be...

    REINHARDT

    The left wing?

    MUCKENBERGER

    You object?

The left wing is the most important position for attacking.

But if you're scared, you may decline.

    REINHARDT

No, if that's your order, I will gladly accept it, Sir.

    FLEGEL

Are you really giong to leave the left wing to him?

    MUCKENBERGER

It is I, the commander, who decides if the left wing is
    essential or not.

    ANNOUNCER

The battle that will take place tomorrow morning at Tiamat
is to be named the "Fourth Tiamat Battle".

We wish you to do your best on behalf of His Majesty
    the Emperor.

    TONIO

Even the name of the battle is planned.

Maybe even the winner is decided.

    KURT

    No one will win.

This war's been going on for 150 years,
and no one has won yet.

    BRAWLER

    Jerk!

    KURT

There's no way that one battle will decide it.

It will be another light loss.

    It's almost planned.

    TONIO

    A planned action...

    KURT

There's one thing that's NOT decided.

    Which of us will die.

We can't find out by reading the schedules...

    So, since we're alive today...

    Wow, look at her!

    Let's go!

    TONIO

    But, I...

    KURT

    Don't worry about it!
    Come on!

All of them are guys who sortie tomrrow.

    SIDE 2

    MITTERMEYER

We take the left wing, the most important position?
    That's suspicious.

    REUENTAL

What do the guys around here think of Admiral Museal?

    MITTERMEYER

    Most of them...
    are enemies...
    a few... friends.

    REUENTAL

    We'll annihilate our enemies.

    MITTERMEYER

    He'll probably do likewise.

    REUENTAL

    So, now we're even.

    MITTERMEYER

It's always a draw with you.

    MAN

Magazines today don't even worry about spreading dir about
    the Imperial household.

    HANS

    The Emperor's pet...
She's the older sister of that new Admiral.
    I can't stand it!
    She's really hot!

To think she signs and moans in the Emperor's wrinkled arms.
And that by doing that, her litter brother is now His
Excellency the Admiral, with money and power.
Thanks to his sister, the WHORE!

    MITTERMEYER

    Shall we?

    REUENTAL

You'll be charged with excessive force with that.

    HANS

But is he really under there?

    That blond Admiral...

    GOETZ

    Stupid, it's a hologram.
    There's nothing there.

    HANS

    I know!
    But I sitll wanna peek.

    GOETZ

    What are you doing?!

    LOUIS

    You're asking for trouble!!

    GOETZ

    Asking for trouble?
    What are you talking about?

    LOUIS

    You dishonored our Admiral!

    HANS

    Followers of "Admiral Brat", eh?

    MITTERMEYER

Looks like someone beat us to it.

    REUENTAL

They seem to be from our fleet.

    MITTERMEYER

    We can't abandon them.
    They're family.

    KIRCHEIS

    Stop it!

    Please continue the performance.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Louis Helm and Ensign Whin Vandenberg,
    correct?

I'm Captain Kircheis, under the immediate command of
    His Excellency the Admiral.

Please refrain from any unnecessary fighting.
Save it for the enemy tomorrow.

    VANDENBERG

    Yes, Sir!
    But...

    KIRCHEIS

    What?

    VANDENBERG

How did you know our names, Sir?
We're just crewmen from a cruiser...

    KIRCHEIS

As long as you're a member of our fleet,
it should come as no surprise.
Even the Admiral knows your names.

    LOUIS

    He does?!

    KIRCHEIS

Although he sometimes forgets the names of the commanders
of the other fleets, he always remembers the names of his
    officers and crew.
That's the kind of person Admiral Reinhardt von Museal is.

    MITTERMEYER

And the Admiral doesn't want you to get into any unecessary
    fights.

    REUENTAL

    THOSE guys aren't worth fighting.
    This is the way...
This is why OUR fleet is strong.

    REINHARDT

    How are our troops doing?

    KIRCHEIS

    Same as always.

    REINHARDT

    I see.
    So it's finally coming... tomorrow.

    KIRCHEIS

    Yes, tomorrow.

    MUCKENBERGER

    Left wing, advance.

    REUENTAL

    Advance?!

    REINHARDT

    Left wing fleet, advance.

    MITTERMEYER

Why aren't the center and right wings advancing?
If we continue, our wing will be a sitting duck!

    MUCKENBERGER

Will the enemy take the bait?

    KIRCHEIS

As expected, the Fleet Admiral is planning to sacrifice us.

    REINHARDT

    What a fool.
If that's what he wants, we'll have to act accordingly.

    Continue advancing.

    MECKLINGER

    (Commodore Ernest Mecklinger, Age: 31)
But if we continue, we'll be destroyed.

    KIRCHEIS

    Chief of Staff... Sir...
    His Excellency has a plan.

    MECKLINGER

    Surely not... THAT plan...

    REINHARDT

    Yes...
    Indeed, Commodore.
    You've figured out my plan.

    MECKLINGER

    But isn't it too risky?

    REINHARDT

    I know the risk.
But is there any other way to save the fleet?

    MECKLINGER

    Yes, you're right, Sir.

    KURT

    Out late last night, eh?

    Never mind.

    Go back to sleep.
If we're going to die, we might as well be sleeping.

    VOICE

*The enemy's left wing is still advancing.
    *Distance: 16000.

    PAETA

    Ridiculous!

    Are they just stupid?
Or is this some kind of trick?

    YANG

Even if it is a trick, that fleet's too valuable to
    sacrifice.

The commander of that white ship is commanding that fleet.
    Maybe...

    If that's the case,
the Imperials are trying to get rid of him.

    ATTENBOROUGH

    Which means...

    YANG

    Yes...
that sort of **** happens int he Empire, too.

    LOUIS

    This is suicide!

    VANDENBERG

Even so, we can't disobey orders.

    LOUIS

    Damn!
Those guys from the fortress really hate us.

    VANDENBERG

I should have hit them some more.

    LOBOS

    All Alliance forces, advance.
    Aim at the forward fleet.

    MUCKENBERGER

As soon as the enemy is in range, commence firing.
Don't worry about damage to the left wing.

*Enemy left wing is 5000 from effective firing range.

    YANG

They'll be shot by both sides.

    ATTENBOROUGH

    They'll be wiped out!

    YANG

    But he's not stopping.
    What's he up to?

    VOICE

Enemy fleet now entering firing range.

    MUCKENBERGER

    Stand by to fire.

    REINHARDT

    NOW!
    All ships! Hard to starboard!

    MITTERMEYER

    All ships, hard to starboard!

    REUENTAL

    Starboard?

    MUCKENBERGER

    What?!

    PAETA

What the hell is going on?!
They're exposing their flank as if they want us to shoot them.

    YANG

    That's it!

    PAETA

    This must be a trap.
    Something's going on...

    YANG

    No!
    NOW!
    Attack NOW!

    PAETA

    You're crazy!
    This is a trap!
We'll attack after we figure out what's going on.

    YANG

    It'll be too late then.

    PAETA

Keep quiet on the bridge, I'm the commander!

    VOICE

    Enemy fleet is turning.

They'll be on our left flank.

    PAETA

Fleet, turn and face to port!

    YANG

    There's no time for that!

    PAETA

    What?!

    YANG

The enemy's main fleet is right in front of us!

    VOICE

Enemy fleet at very close quarters.

    MUCKENBERGER

    Commence firing!

    PAETA

    Open fire!

    MUCKENBERGER

    How did this happen?

Look! The fleet that was supposed to be the decoy has
    maneuvered into a superior position.

The victim is now the hunter.

    MECKLINGER

Admiral, this was a very aggressive plan.

    REINHARDT

    Never again.
    After we win this battle,
I'll never use such a dangerous strategy again.

    MUCKENBERGER

    That damned brat!

    VOICE

    Collision course with enemy fleet!

    MUCKENBERGER

    I know.
    A battle of raw power.
Our only chance is to overwhelm them with numbers.

    GREENHILL

    (Admiral Dwight Greenhill, Age: early-50's)
Free Planets sufferage is 18,651 ships and over 2,280,000
    wounded.

Ignoring the ship losses, our casualties are lower them
    theirs.

    LOBOS

The problem's not the number of personnel left alive,
but the number of warships still capable of fighting.

    GREENHILL

    We've also lost fewer ships.
But the enemy still has an undamaged fleet.
If that fleet attacks, we'll be wiped out.

    LOBOS

Why didn't anyone attack when that fleet crossed in
    front of us?

    MUCKENBERGER

We outnumber them only if we count the brat's fleet.

    FLEGEL

But will they help us after we used them as bait?

    MUCKENBERGER

Imperial officers don't ask for help from expendable forces.

    FLEGEL

Even if we win, you won't be able to avoid responsibility.

    MUCKENBERGER

A soldier does not shirk responsibilities.

We can't ask that kid to help us.

    REINHARDT

Everything will be decided by what we do.

    KIRCHEIS

    That's correct.

    REINHARDT

The Fleet Admiral will be displeased, even if I help him.

    KIRCHEIS

    You must know, Lord Reinhardt

That the hate of ten commanders is outweighed by the
gratitude of the millions of soldiers whose lives will be saved.

    REINHARDT

    Of course...
    You're right.

    VOICE

The left wing fleet has begun hostilities.

    MUCKENBERGER

    They're helping us...

That brat thinks he's the cavalry.

    PAETA

    There's no time to lose!

    LOBOS

    Do you have a plan?

    PAETA

A small number of ships will penetrate the enemy fleet,
and pretend to attack the fortress.

Meanwhile, the main fleet will escape.

    LOBOS

    A divisionary tactic?

But the fleet going to the fortress will almost certainly be
    destroyed.

    Who will accept that duty?

    YANG

    I'll do it.

    PAETA

    You?!
    Commodore Yang Wenli?!

    ATTENBOROUGH

    What's the matter with you?

It's not like you to volunteer.

    YANG

    So why did you?

    ATTENBOROUGH

We'll be wiped out if we stay here.

If I'm going to die, I'd rather it be under your command.

    YANG

You think too highly of me.

I only want to pay my debts.

    ATTENBOROUGH

    Pay your debts?

    YANG

If I'd argued more strongly at Legmiza, there might have
    been fewer casualties.

And if I'd forced him to attack that fleet this time,
the results wouldn't have been this bad.

    ATTENBOROUGH

But would such a clever commander be tricked into
    accepting this kind of assignment?

    YANG

    If it was me...
    No.

But I think this plan's worth trying.

Diversion fleet launching under command of Commodore Yang Wenli.

    LOBOS

    Good luck, everyone!

    GREENHILL

    What?
    Is that true?

    LOBOS

    What is it?

    GREENHILL

Sir, when you say "everyone", it's only three people aboard
    the battleship Ulysses.
The rest are all unmanned, remote control ships.

    LOBOS

    Only three?!

    YANG

    Sorry, Captain.

I wish I could navigate this ship, but...

    NILSSON

    (Commander Nilsson, Age: late-30's)
    This ship's a temperamental beast.

There's no way I could leave it to amateurs.

We've penetrated the enemy's zone of control!

    YANG

    Well done!

    ATTENBOROUGH

    Now, it's party time!

    VOICE

Enemy detected to the rear. A fleet of 8000 is advancing
    towards the fortress.

    FLEGEL

    Damn!
We'll be cut off from the fortress!

    MUCKENBERGER

Main fleet, retreat and defend the fortress.

    VOICE

    Main fleet, retreating.

    KIRCHEIS

They've been fooled by a diversion.

    REINHARDT

    Fools!

    VOICE

The enemy's main fleet is in retreat.

    LOBOS

    They fell for it.

    VOICES

All forces, pull back but renew the attack.

    GREENHILL

The question is, how long can we keep the enemy fooled?

    VOICE

    Main fleet is heavily damaged.

    KIRCHEIS

The main fleet was nicely taken in by the diversion, wasn't it?

    REINHARDT

I'm afraid we can't let it pass.

    Rear Admiral Mittermeyer.
It's a small task, but please take care of the enemy ships.

    MITTERMEYER

    The decoy?
Twelve fast battleships have already been deployed.

    REINHARDT

    Only twelve?

    MITTERMEYER

Are any more necessary for a decoy?

    REINHARDT

    Of course.
    Twelve is enough.

    YANG

    We've got company.

    VOICE

From the left wing: Enemy fleet attacking the fortress is
a diversionary fleet. There is no need to retreat.

    MUCKENBERGER

    Okay then, finish them!

    VOICE

    Enemy ship!
    Position is directly below us!

    REINHARDT

    What?!

    VOICE

    The enemy ship isn't firing.
But if it does, the Admiral's ship will be completely destroyed.

    REUENTAL

    Damn!
    He's a hostage.

    Cease firing!

    MITTERMEYER

    Nobody fire!

    GREENHILL

Now's our chance to attack, sir!

    LOBOS

    What?!
If we attack now and destroy the enemy flagship,
    we'll be slaughtered.

    YANG

    It's very quiet.
    No one is attacking us.

    ATTENBOROUGH

    He's improtant.
    They don't want him killed.

    VANDENBERG

    If anyone fires now...

    LOUIS

    It'd be hell.

    REINHARDT

Kircheis, we can't give up this victory for my life
    and this ship.

    KIRCHEIS

    Please wait!

    REINHARDT

    Attack!

    STEINMETZ

    (Captain Steinmetz, Age: 30)
Sir, I am responsible for the command of this ship.

Your Excellency, please perform your duty as fleet commander.

    REINHARDT

    I'm sorry.
You are the captain of this ship.
    I will never interfere again.

    STEINMETZ

    Proceed.

    VOICE

    There's an opening to port.

    LOBOS

    All ships, retreat immediately!

    YANG

    Okay, let's go.

    ATTENBOROUGH

Will we be attacked once we release the hostage?

    YANG

    I don't know.
But if I were him, I probably wouldn't.
This engagement, the Fourth Tiamat Battle,
    is over.

    VOICE

    The enemy fleet is retreating.
    Shall we pursue?

    REINHARDT

    There's no need.
    Pursuit would only increase casualties.
There will be more battles in the future.

    KIRCHEIS

    This one is over.

    REINHARDT

    Yes, it's over.

    TONIO

    Did something happen?

    KURT

    No.
    We're both lucky, for now.

    POPLAN

    Konev, we survived again.

    KONEV

    So, who won?

    POPLAN

    I hope we did.

    KONEV

Oh? Since when did you become a patriot?

    POPLAN

Never! I just don't want to lose the bet!

    MUCKENBERGER

Not only did you save the Imperial fleet from a disastrous
    situation...

But due to your actions on the enemy flank, you have brought
    almost total victory.

This deserves recognition. As the Starfleet Commander-in-
    Chief, I...

    TRUNIHT

(Secretary of Defense Job Truniht, Age: 40)
This is a holy war which must be continued regardless of
    the consequences.

The only thing that will prevent an invasion by the evil,
artistocratic Empire is your devotion to your homeworlds.

Although you may die defending the Alliance, you are
performing your duty as a citizen.

As those on the front line of battle, you are the models for
    all of our people.

I, Job Truniht, your Secretary of Defense, am proud of you!

    FLEGEL

    He really is lucky.

    MUCKENBERGER

    Is it just luck?

At least he's no longer the "Admiral under the Skirt"

But he's still a conceited brat.

    PAETA

    Commodore Yang Wenli!

It seems I was mistaken about you.
Can I buy you a drink?

    YANG

I only want a drink of good tea...
    alone.

    KIRCHEIS

I found out the name of the commander of that battleship.
    Commodore Yang Wenli.
He is called the Hero of El Facile.

    REINHARDT

    Problems, Kircheis.

    KIRCHEIS

    Sir?

    REINHARDT

Until now I only had to think of four things.

    KIRCHEIS

    Yes?

    REINHARDT

One, how to handle the Empire.
    Two, my sister.
    My friends,
and the officers and crew of this fleet.

But now, another problem I cannot ignore has appeared.

    ATTENBOROUGH

    What's up?
    Don't you like the tea?

    YANG

    I've learned his name.

    ATTENBOROUGH

    Who?

    YANG

The commander of that white ship.
His name is Reinhardt von Museal.

    REINHARDT

    Commodore Yang Wenli...

    YANG

    Reinhardt von Museal...
