That really depends. I thought Lain was absolutely brilliant, as was Crest of the Stars.

Lain was brilliantly thought out, if only for the fact that it utterly confuses you.

Crest of the Stars has a great story, because it's split into 3 parts, Banner and Warflag (Banner 2).

But, depending on WHAT kind of anime you like to watch, then it's possible to see them as a little bland.

Lain has to have one of the best stories ever. The story may confuse you but still, it's amazing.

*nods* Yeah it really does just depend on what kind of anime you watch. Like people who prefer action-oriented anime probably wouldn't watch Lain or Crest of the Stars. And when it comes down to my opinion of these shows, Lain has a deep plot that can seem confusing if you miss a few episodes, and that goes for CotS as well. So yeah, they're good.

Lain is one of my favorite anime of all time. It's mind-warping, and sometimes it can be pretty pretentious like all drama anime, but it has a very existentialist undertone through it, and though I've seen the whole thing more than 4-5 times, I keep re-watching it.

I've never seen the other anime you mentionned.
