Anime Shaman King anime (meant for the manga readers)

Is the following true or not: Fox (or whoever dubbed SK) KILLED the series.

Why on EARTH would you call Manta "Morty" or make him carry around a big HORROR STORIES book when it's supposed to be a DICTIONARY?

Need to hear your opinions on this. I'm not watching it anymore. *sigh*

 

I know that they did Americanize the series and modify the names and objects in the series but as long as it still shows some resamlince in the manga.(thats 4 Kids for ya)
I adore the manga but there is hope for a ligit release of it unedited. I say this because FUNimation is realesing Ultraman Tiga unedited and subbed so there is hope. More good news they don't have the full series (only eps 1-26)so some other company will purchase the rest of the series

The day if reaconing has come lets just cower in fear for the next few days while we watch the battle of amagaeddon

I think they did alright. Morty was a dumb thing to do but Yoh's name sounds like an English pun ^_^ What's his english last name? I don't think I caught it.

 

I personally haven't seen the anime yet, BUT it won't be as good
as the Manga!i'll tell you that! you don't have to be a rocket
scientist to get that!!!!!!!who all agrees with me?

 

so much shaman king threads.....why is that? shaman king anime is really old, fox kids has been airing it for about a year or more...

and the spanish translation is more accurate, the names and objects remain the same, i dont know why in english translations they change a bunch of stuff, i once saw a dragonball ep. and goku's name was "zero"!!!! crazy americans hehe

 

Here in the United States in just started airing on FOXBOX so we coundn't see it until now but it was bad

The company responsible for Katsuya Jounouchi becoming Joey Wheeler, Hiroto Honda becoming Tristan Taylor, Anzu Masaki becoming Tea gardener, Pegasus J. Crawford becoming Maximillion Pegasus, Black Magican becoming Dark Magican...
What? Did you think those son of a guns would actually stay to the original names!?

I didn't go in expecting much, but I didn't really expect what we got. Manta didn't seem like dub-worthy name.

 

The original is always the best. Ohh speaking of dubbed for kids have yall seen the trash they've put on Toonami Before it was okay but now its abtrocios. It's cuz some mom sued cartoon network for having FLCL on. Hopefully that new show IGPX will be better.

 

i was also disappointed when i saw the series. i hate when they called manta, morty. i was really disappointed. but i can't do anything about..so i guess its either i have to stick with the manga or die with annoyance^_^;

and yeah,they have chopped a lot of parts off the manga for the anime.

 

I liked it! It was pretty cute!

 

I love the SK manga, but the dub treatment of the anime makes me want to weep.

I sat through part of one episode when I saw that it was based on one of my favorite parts of the manga -- the arrival of Ren. Then it got odd. Characters began to call Manta "Morty", and I believe Ren was "Len" (unless I was just hearing it incorrectly). If it's REN in the translated manga, it SHOULD be Ren in the dub, I would think... and Manta is a word that is used in English, why change it? They kept Yoh's name intact, so what was the point? I figured that it was a minor quibble and kept watching.

I shouldn't have. The changes were crazy. Calling shaved ice "strawberry ice cream" is a bit odd when it doesn't look like that at all... they could have just said Sno-Cone or something if they had to. Manta's Dictionary was changed to a book of Horror Stories. And Amidamaru and Yoh taking about shooting hoops... yikes.

Needless to say, I can't really watch the show, no matter how much I want to. The alterations to the anime just jump out at me too much for me to enjoy the experience.

 

Yes they did make of hole mess load of changes Len would have been forgiveable but if you found out the title of the episode was Lenny I would have been fine then i think of Law and Order (Lenny Brisco) but what else can you execpt from 4kids

 

Len/Ren I can understand because of the famous L/R pronunciation mix-up. It's rather common. Is it Rupan or Lupin the III? Is it Luffy or Ruffy in One Piece? And so on. But since it's translated in the manga as Ren, I am puzzled as to why they would change it.

There's really only one BIG issue I have with SK, and that's the changing of ENGLISH. I can deal with changing Japanese names, but this is just weird. Are kids today thought to be too stupid to know what a "manta" is? Even if they don't, what's the problem with keeping it the same? It's not like it's hard to say.

 

That one actually had nothing to do with the translation because that books of Arsene Lupin. The real reason the changed it to Rupan is so that they didn't have to pay royalites to Maurice Lablanc's desendents. So thay changed it to Rupan and used the R/L excuse.

 

Is it Lind or Rind? is it Malik or Mariku?
Japanese have a problem prounoucing alot of name like that.

And why it was turned into Len, is simple really... Len sounds better. Lol, sorry just had to say that. Ren instantly makes me think of that girl from Even Stevens (W00T!!!) or that a-hole chiwawa from ren and Stimpy. --
