Having been to these places, in my opinion Amsterdam is a hole. Vegas is a hole. Amsterdam much less so, until you get towards the center of the city. Neither here nor there though.

I dislike prostitution. I think it's pie in the sky to think that anyone can get any real happiness from paying someone for a half hour physical relations. Sure you may be getting some, but she's thinking what a loser you are and it's a good thing you're paying her so much. That has to be fun.

Humans have emotional needs too, and prostitution doesn't satisfy them. It gives a shallow substitute, and helps losers brush over their problems. I don't feel the need to make things easier for them, or the women who take their money and give nothing in return.

It's been around forever and will be whatever is done about it, which could be taken as an argument to legalize it of course. I take it as an argument to say to hell with it and leave it as it is.

You make some good points. However, you opinion of the prostitutes and the johns aside, I think that regulation of legalized prostitution would be nothing but an improvement. Why? As I and others have said, it would improve public health and decrease disease transmission.

If it was only prostitutes and the people buying their services who got STDs, I'd almost be tempted to say it serves them right for being irresponsible (notice I said almost). But there are a lot of people who get infected because their significant other was with a prostitute and is too damn selfish to use protection with either of them. There are kids who contract diseases from their mother during birth, and babies abandoned in the trash because their mother is a druggy prostitute and can't be bothered to spend money on birth control or abortion, or make the effort to put the kid up for adoption. These people deserve as much protection as we can give them. Legalized prostitution would almost certainly help by introducing some standards of conduct and quality.

Do keep in mind, along with legalization comes laws...

And I must point out, if anyone beats anyone else, be it husband and wife, or pimp and *****, the law (supposedly) protects you. So it's just as dangerous as going on a blind date, if not actually less.

I'm for it. What's wrong with selling your body? I'll never do it. But respect those who do, as little respect as they already get...

***Also, we must realize, illegal or not, it'll happen. So let's legalize and make it safer.

    You mean it's not legal?

In that case, I don't think it should be legalized. As you people were saying, there are children prosituting themselves. I saw a program on it. Sometimes, their own families force them into it, just for the money. If this was all illegal, they would have to stop.
Speaking more for the woman who choose this path... well, yes, it is their choice. But does that make it right? Think of abortion, they're trying to take that right away as well. I'm not going to get into that.
You can't say "oh, it's just for pleasure, and they need the money." Any person , who is a decent person, can atleast try and work. And selling off your body isn't a good career choice. Depending on your religion, sex is something that should wait, as well.
Even if that doesn't apply to you, think of what our country has become. A place where men buy women to please them? If I were from another country, (where it wasn't legal) I would certainly think "What a bunch of sick slobs!"
So yes, to cut down on this vile act, I say they keep it illegal. (Not that this stops anybody.)

 Child prostitution and pornography are illegal NOW, that doesn't stop them. The whole argument for prostitution is that in legalizing it and setting up legitimate brothels, regulations can be applied reducing this.

Not up to you to define what is morally right. Just because someones religion or belief says something doesn't mean they can force it on everyone else.

That IS work. Just because sex is pleasurable doesn't mean it isn't work too. Furthermore, there are legitimate jobs that aren't "decent" or "respectable". Anybody here like politicians, or telemarketers, or...

    So?

    Or women can buy men.

I care what other nations think of me why? If I wanted to I could probably go and find something "sick" about EVERY nation.

I was about to object, but Neph beat me to it.

    With that said, I'd just like to add, that your seeing this from a very self-centered point of view. Every one of these arguments focuses on your belief, and what you think. And sorry to break it to you, but prostitutes and the nation don't care what you think. ^.^;

And prostitution is gonna happen either way; so why don't we legalize it and make it safer?

Who said you get real happiness? It's a booty call, and it works both way. She dosen't care if your a loser, if doing you means eating dinner. ^_^
Well, lets see: Loser brushes over problems, Prostitute gets payed. Loser dosen't realize anything. All better.
Why leave it? Why not make it better? Down isn't the only way to go.

i think that prostitution should be legalised. if someone wants to do this kind of work(not only women are doing prostitution, there are alot of men in that business as well) there is nothing we can do to stop them. and if it would be legalised than it would be much much safer for workers and for clients. by the way, i live in Australia and in here prostitution IS legal. i dont say that i like the idea of prostitution being legal but i dont have anything against it as well. and i think that it is much better if prostitutes stays in a brothel where only clients can see them than walk the streets in sexy clothes and disturb normal ppl.

Not to mention, they wouldn't sneak up your sideyard to discard their dirty condoms - which happened in a place I used to live, once, before the neighborhood was cleaned up. -_-; There was about a year-long period during which we had a real problem with that. My dad was once petitioned by some heroin-addict prostitute while unloading work supplies from his truck. Blech.

In legalizing prostitution, it'd become a respectable job - women would be held to standards of dress and hygeine. This would, as me_dreaming_zzz points out, keep them out of public view for the most part, thus sparing those of us who may not want to see cleavage and fishnet stalkings on our way to work.

And the more immediate problem for m2a patrons - if prostitution is legalized, will this word be removed from the censored list?
