Well, it's been a while since I posted to this thread, and my collection has grown. I've also revised my view on translated manga (to an extent) in that I do buy it now. That said, I still really like the original Japanese.

I actually don't purchase much manga, I usually rely on my friends' purchases *grins* or just find some way to retrieve the anime if it's been released and seems worthwhile.

i got a new manga today, its by the same guys who wrote "Lone Wolf and Cub" its called Samurai Executioner. its about Ogami Ittou's greatest rival before there fight.

 

Ratings Out Of Five Stars

Scanlated:

Blood: The Last Vampire (Chapters 1-6) (As far as I can find, this is all there is to it)

Rating: * * (Some sick and twisted stuff in there but, like the OVA, really just... pointless)


Legend of Mana (Chapters 1-10)

Rating: * * * (Not too bad. I didn't really like the game, was a total bring-down from the previous games, though the manga's pretty entertaining, and the art is decent. Pretty humorous)


Naruto (Chapters 1-151)

Rating: * * * * * (I can honestly say I have never seen an anime, movie, manga, book, etc. where I've liked as many characters as in this manga. There has to be about 5%, at the most, of the really decently known characters that I dislike, and even them, are minor, and the feeling is temporary. Art is insanely good, one of the few things involving humor that actually entertains me in manga)


Renka (Chapters 1-3) (As far as I can find, this is all there is to it)

Rating: * * * * (Much like Blood: The Last Vampire, there's not much going on here and it's very short and doesn't establish much, unless I'm wrong abotu the lenght, but this is all I could find. Though, the art is utterly amazing, and the character design is pretty original, at least in appearance. What I can gather from the plot is actually pretty well place even though it has such a small space for it).


Sorcerous Stabber Orphen (Chapters 1-16)

Rating: N/A (I can't say much about this because I never read the manga, honestly; only have seen the Anime. I was going to wait to read it when I get it all, though the site I was getting it from, I lost it, and can't find it again :\ So I'm peeved about that).


Zombie Powder (Volumes 1-4 & Extras 1-3) (As far as I can find, this is all there is to it)

Rating: * * * * (Much like Renka and Blood: The Last Vampire, this has little space to cram all that's needed into it, and it does a better job of it than Blood does, though it is longer than both series, but not really long, I should say. Either way... it has a very Trigun-feel to it, and especially the art. The character designs, I think, are my favorite about this because each character, for the most part, is just amazing, especially the main character, Gamma. If you can find this anywhere, I would recommend checking it out)


Owned:

Hellsing (Volumes 1-3)

Rating: * * * * 1/2 (The art, although a bit strange with how it is drawn, is rather amazing and has a sort of strange, addicting style to it. The plot is so much deeper and more well planted than in the anime. If you thought the anime was good, you'll love the manga. If you thought the anime sucked, you'll love te manga. 'nuff said )


Trigun (Maximum) (Volumes 1-3)

Rating: * * * * * (Pretty much the same as Hellsing, in my opinion, as far as why I like it. Plus there's certain things about the manga of Trigun I'm sure people will love that don't occur in the anime, and vice versa. Although, I'm more partial to Yasuhiro Nightow's art-style)


Angel Sanctuary (Volumes 1-3)

Rating: * * * * * (When I was told that Angel Sanctuary was being released, I didn't believe the friend who said it; until he showed me. I had heard about Angel Sanctuary a while back from a friend and was immediately hooked on it. It's sick, deranged, twisted, touching, demented, romantic, violent... pretty much everything imaginable rolled up into one. Needless to say, when I found the truth to the statement, I had to get this)


Ragnarok (Volumes 1-3 & 6)

Rating: * * * * * (Another great plot and more great art here. In case you're wondering why I only own those certain numbers... I had been reading Ragnarok as my friend got them, and would just mooch it off of them to read and give it back, though a little while's back I decided to start collecting it for myself. I picked up the little collector's box featuring 1-3 while I was at the mall one day and went back another day and the only one available was 6. I'd get more, but there are other things on higher priority, and I don't get out often much anymore)

That's it, I believe. Though I'm thinking of investing into the Cowboy Bebop and Great Teacher Onizuka manga as well (I've seen Onizuka up to the 6th DVD, I think it was; amazing series).
