Who here draws manga more than landscapes and portraits?

I do, and I'm think that I'm an otaku!!! This anime/manga obession is driving me nuts, and especially my art is mostly manga anfd anime!

Does anyone here have any signs of being an otaku? is it good or bad to be one ?

My signs of being an otaku you ask?

I'd say memorizing J-pop and anime songs and singing them in corn fields.

I wouldn't mind drawing my own manga, although I'm too hard on myself while drawing. I'll probably draw manga and anime style people for my rpg though.

    Let's see ... how can I tell I'm an otaku? ...
Well, I originally thought I was just a simple nerd, since I spend my lunch hour reading Tolkien, Bradbury, Shakespeare and the like, and because I spend all my spare time at my computer, PS2, or doing homework. Then, it occurred to me that there is another aspect to my life that I had neglected: ANIME!!! Also, I spend most of my time online looking at anime-related sites, or posting messages here. And, I also spend a lot of spare time watching old episodes of DBZ and Tenchi, or listening to Japanese tunes, and my PS2 and PSX collection is stocked with anime-style games. Besides all that, I'm just too damn weird to be a nerd.
As for whether or not being an otaku is a good thing, well, everybody's a stereotype of some sort these days. This one's more fun than my other options. Also, openly stating your otaku-ness is a great way to find others like yourself with whom you can strike up some friendly conversation. Look at what we're doing here, por ejemplo.

You find nothing unusual about the idea of three sword-slinging female high-school students saving the universe with the aid of a giant, obnoxious bunny.

You try to meteo smash your little brother

If you start daydreaming that your girlfriend or boyfriend is an anime character.

If you believe that your girlfriend or boyfriend will be an anime character!

When you wear a sailor suit at a public school.

when your whole life flashes before your eyes, and it looks like a bad ranma 1/2 episode.

 :catgirl: 5 out of the four have happened to me... what's that tell ya :catgirl:

well, I wouldn't call myself an otaku.. isn't it kind of insulting? I mean, isn't an otaku someone so obsessed they stay home all the time and have no friends? :sweat2:
I'm not an otaku, just a manga fanatic

personally i think anyone who reaches the level of obsession that they cosplay to every convention within 500km fits the description perfectly. :anime:
not much gets licenced over here, so there's no fear of that for me :sweat2: .
i don't think being an otaku is bad unless it reaches the stage where you can't have normal conversation with someone on the street.
