January? I checked ADVFilm's release schedule, and it hasn't even added Great to their slate yet. However, it wouldn't be surprising. They've been steadily releasing the movies every few months... But, heck, Return doesn't even release for four days.

"Like the rest" leaves a lot open to interpretation.

If you mean "is it as good as Motion Picture and Return?", then I would say it's as good, if not better. It's either my absolute favorite or 2nd favorite of the movies (still unsure whether to truly grant the 30-min Premium "movie" status in my eyes). This one features a truly epic fight between golems modeled after Lina and Naga. :)

If you mean "is it as good as the Slayers TV series?", then it falls somewhat short. I always found the television stuff to be far superior to the movies...

This proboly means that the rest of ADV's Slayers stuff will be out but by July 2004 (yip ee.)
    edit
ADV Releases things on a six week basis now and they have Slayers Excellect , Slayers Gorgeous , and Slayers 5 that would mean they should be released on or about Febuary 18, on or around March 31, an on or about May 12

I think there are too many slayer's movies and series. One TV series and one movie was fine. They just might be getting into the Dragon ball Z area of milking-the-franchise. Come on! give the poor characters some time to themselves where they don't have to save/destroy the world!

Speak for yourself. I want more. Whether or not it's a milking of the franchise, what sets it above DBZ is it's not blatantly obvious. There's some story and development in Slayers that just isn't in the other. Not to mention when you stack them up against each other:

Slayers + Slayers Next + Slayer Try = 78 eps
    Dragonball + Dragonball Z + Dragonball GT = 508+

I am discounting the many movies between the two (of which I think DBZ had at least twice as many as Slayers on my last look) and OVAs in the above calculation, but it quite evidently shows you're overstating it a tad bit.

Heck, Rurouni Kenshin came in at 95 episodes. All the various Sailor Moon TV series (not even factoring in the new live action) ring in at 200. Gundam is likely challenging DB for most episodes in series. There are tons more I could mention (Naruto or One Piece anyone?). Funny how I don't see anyone saying any of those are "milking the franchise".

Not every Slayers story involves the group saving the world, although most do. I agree that such a plot is not needed to be successful, but it just works so well into the Fantasy story cliche that I'm usually willing to forgive it. Besides, who wants to watch an anime movie about "Betsy's uneventful day at the office"? These world-shattering storylines are the attention grabbers.

    This is just backing it.
    Slayers has 5 movies
Dragon Ball Z itself has 13 movies

All Slayers movies exist in the same universe as the show
1 of the Dragon Ball Z movies exist in the same universe as the show

    Gundam has 498 episodes(454 series, 34 ovas) , 10 movies.
One Piece has 178 epieodes as of August

Not to mention Dragonball Z is repetitive. Slayers, however, isn't. It has an actual plot. And good voice actors, like Megumi Hayashibara.

In my honest opinion, I doubt anything can beat Dragonball Z when it comes down to being repetitive. Plus, Dragonball GT wasn't even made by the same person. It dragged on long enough, GT was just exagerating.

    ** Off-Topic Note **
    Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon
    Sailormoon Classic - Episodes 01-46
    Sailormoon R - Episodes 47-89
    Sailormoon S - Episodes 90-127
    Sailormoon SuperS - Episodes 128-166
Sailormoon Sailor Stars - Episodes 167-200

Along with the Sailormercury SuperS Special, "Ami-chan no Hatsukoi", and three extra Sailormoon SuperS episodes. Including of course the three movies.

The live action series so far has 19 episodes along with the "Making Of" Special.
