Hi! Welcome to my humble abode :anime:

Most of us are fanfic writers, so why not make a thread to expose our fanfiction ideas / doubts?

For example, a few days ago Fighter Zell asked me how to write better fics. I said, "get in the characters", but how can we do that? Anyway, more doubts came out, and i thought. Hey, why not discussing this?

Some people i've talked to, have told me that they're experiencing the "writers block". So ... question. Do you ppl just wait for the ideas to come out to your mind?

Also, the deadline for Lady Aoi's SMJ fanfiction contest is getting closer everyday!!!

    And of course...

Talking about our fics. What we liked, what we didn't... etc etc.

So, if anyone wants to talk about this, cool! :)

If not... how about starting by one of my fics (like "corruption", where Lime gets addicted to an electronic drug).

    So, here it is!

Lime: The SMJ fanfiction thread! Yay!!! :anime:
Cherry: Ugh, Lime, come on, it's just fic!
Hana: Otaruuuuuu! I wrote this wonderful fic about us!! ;)
Otaru: AAAAAAH! GET AWAY FROM ME!!!

Once ideas pop into my head, I try writing them down. But what's my problem? Well, I can never write down what I have in mind! No matter how hard I try, I couldn't. My goal's to allow readers to imagine exactly how I imagined..whatever I come up with.

Another problem, once I start on something, I tend to pause it for a loooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggggg time before I pick up myself and start writing again.

Finally, I also get lots of distractions. Uh huh. when I'm writing my fics, I always get distracted by either snacks or internet or other entertainments.

Anyways...ick...I'm babbling nonsense about fics when this is a SMJ forum *gonks on keyboard* BAKA Sachiko... I DO wanna enter a fic to Aoi's SMJ Fanfic Contest, if I could solve ALL of those problems...

Oooo! SMJ FANFIC THREAD?! Tight! But isn't it like RPG? But anyways, sure thing ^^V

No, you got me wrong. This wasn't supposed to be a "thread WITH fanfiction", but a "thread ABOUT fanfiction".

    OK, once I've clarified this...

    > Once ideas pop into my head, I try writing them down. But what's my problem? Well, I can never write down what I have in mind! No matter how hard I try, I couldn't. My goal's to allow readers to imagine exactly how I imagined..whatever I come up with.

Well. Maybe the problem with you, Sachiko is that these ideas come very mixed up, and confusing... right? Like you want this to happen, and this scene, and this other scene... but there's so much in your head that you want to start and you can't get them in order.

So, grab paper & pencil, and type something like:

    Ideas for my next fic:

    * Kiss between Akashi & Bloodberry at the circus
    * Bloodberry gets confused & leaves
    * (other time) reconciliation - doubts...
    * scene at the lake

OK once you've done this, you start to get things clearer in your mind. Next sort them by chronological order.

When you've done that... start writing the scenes. You've watched SMJ, so you can imagine how things happen. Imagine the music (if you have a SMJ music CD - and i KNOW you have ;) play the corresponding music. For example, in a Lime / ponta playing scene, i play the "Maa. Iikaa" piece. In the battle scenes, i play something groovy and moody - possibly some Final Fantasy / Street fighter midis, whatever. And i close my eyes and imagine the scenes.

When i got the scenes clear in my mind, as in a movie... i start writing them down.

A fanfiction is like a movie or TV show. It has scenes, scenarios, background music (imagined but what the heck) - and OF COURSE... a plot. Plot, what plot? If you don't have a clear plot, then you have a clear problem :p

Imagine you're the director of a movie. "OK, Akashi, Bloodberry... you're ready... Action!"

And start writing. Let the characters act by themselves, do what they do, say what they say, and you just record them. It's that easy. I do this all the time with my fics. If you can't imagine what they say, then you need to watch the series again, and know them more (i.e. jot down Lime's favorite foods, Bloodberry's thoughts, Cherry's reactions when this or that happens... helps a bit.

    > Another problem, once I start on something, I tend to pause it for a looo.....onnn...ngg...ggg time before I pick up myself and start writing again.

    Ooooh lazy Sachiko! ;)

    > Finally, I also get lots of distractions. Uh huh. when I'm writing my fics, I always get distracted by either snacks or internet or other entertainments.

OK. Then devote some of your free time to exclusively writing the fic. Don't do anything else until you've finished at least a scene.

For example, if you want snacks, grab them and take them to your bedroom, or wherever the computer is. If you're invited to watch TV or something, say "not right now, thanks, i'm busy". As a writer, you have some responsibilities (with us! :anime:v )

Second - and this is VERY important.

DO NOT, repeat... do _NOT_ connect to the internet if you plan to write. I find myself writing and not doing ANYTHING on the web... or just wasting time on the web and not writing at all.

So logging on is just useless. I have the text editor (or whatever), so i write.

Aaaww look at my Lorelei pic. Isn't she sweet? :)

    More suggestions

If it gets too difficult to express your ideas, try making things gradual.

For example. Let's imagine this scene with Akashi & Bbberry.

    ------------- imaginary scene - like in a movie -----------------
He kisses her passionately, while the sun shines over the lake, reflecting the yellow sunrays over the couple. He touches her soft cheeks with his hands, while caressing her lips with his own. The wind slowly blows upon them, and Bloodberry's hair moves along with the air, touching Akashi's hands. You can see the waves in the lake moved by the air, resulting in a wonderful light show.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wow - pretty, isn't it. OK you don't have to start writing ALL at once.

    You can start with.

    FIRST DRAFT
    ----------
He slowly approached his lips to hers, and they kissed.
"Oh Akashi", she thought. "I love you so much..."
    ----------

Start with the dialogues and thoughts of the characters.

Then you can add on some details.

    SECOND DRAFT
    ----------
He slowly approached his lips to hers, and they kissed.
"Oh Akashi", she thought. "I love you so much..."
Then a soft air current blowed on Bloodberry's hair. It moved softly and with grace, caressing Akashi's hand. Akashi felt something like electricity. This was a very beautiful moment.
    ----------

    And more details...

    THIRD DRAFT

    ----------
"Bloodberry, I love you. I really love you... when I was at the circus, missing you..."
"Stop, Akashi, stop! I really don't know..."
    But he interrupted her. "Shhh..."
Bloodberry was surprised by this answer. She opened her eyes. Akashi slowly drew his hand to touch gently Bloodberry's cheeks.
"Don't say anything..." he whispered.
The wind moved the water on the lake surface, reflecting the sunrays and producing a wonderful light show that shone upon the loving couple.
Bloodberry hugged Akashi, and began crying. "Oh Akashi... I'm so sorry!" she thought. She hug him tight while he began caressing her back with his his hands.
Bloodberry stopped the kiss and began sobbing. "OH AKASHI, I'M SO SORRY, I'M SO SORRY!" she said. [ NOTE: We begin roleplaying here... let her emotions and thoughts drive the fic ]
"IT'S JUST THAT I WAS CONFUSED, AND I'M SORRY I HURT YOU..."
    "Don't worry Bloodberry... it's ok. It's ok."
They rested their heads on each others' shoulder for a couple of minutes.
Bloodberry felt rested... she felt at peace. In a soft, slow voice... she said.
    "I love you, Akashi."
    "I love you too."
    ----------

    End of scene.

(BTW, if you want to add this scene to your fic, no problem!)

So, you can start writing stuff like this. Start by the bare facts and events... then you can add on details. Like a painting.

You first draw a "happy tree" :D (yeah i like Bob Ross). Then you start drawing the leaves, and the shadows... etc. Ta-da!

OK We got a scene. Now what?

Well. The lake scene is finished. What do we do now? Explore.

Why did Bloodberry hurt Akashi... and how? What was she thinking about?

Sometimes i write some scenes in separate text files. For example, i have finished the final chapter for "In search of true love", and i haven't written the other chapters. How did this happen?

Well, i began writing a scene (named the file "bberry1y.html") and everything began happening. I saw the events in my head and began typing and typing.

And... whoops. Now what do I do? Well... i think of another scene.

So you might end up with hundreds of unconnected scenes (but scenes you like). The hard part is connecting them. Perhaps when you write the connection, the scene changes and you have to discard it. But don't worry! Because that trashed scene helped you write the other scenes. So you just replace your original thought for new ones.

Fics don't have to be written chronologically... that might be too difficult at times. Free your mind... you can do whatever you want, there are no rules (well, ALMOST no rules).

    Hope this helped.

    God bless!
