    Dear List,

Word from Japan has it that Tomita has now completed his new CD 'The Tale
Of Genji'. Final mixes were completed at the beginning of March.

More information will be posted here or on the website when it becomes
    available.

    ?

I have to say I am slightly confused.

What is the difference between this new CD and "The Tale Of Genji" I have in
    my hands?
    (Pioneer PICW-1024).

    Regards,
    Lance.

the '99 "tales of the genji" is just a live concert hall recording
Pioneer decided to put out. The studio version Tomita has been recording
in London and Tokyo is the definitive recording. It will certainly be a
better recorded better performance and the synths won't be recorded off
the hall's speakers (which is one of the many things he was very unhappy
    with apparently).

Precisely. And I believe that the first CD (the one you hold in your hands)
was only released as a limited edition. It seems that only 1000 were
available in Europe; since Pioneer were the label and also the sponsors of
the London and Los Angeles events last year, my guess is that it was
effectively a promo. The new CD will have full release (well, it will in
Japan, anyway). The synth processing on the new CD is done with full Roland
RSS (Sound Space) through the desk at mixdown, as opposed to off the
    speakers as Nick mentioned.

The new recording features the London Philharmonic orchestra, who performed
at last year's concerts. Tomita was so pleased with their (admittedly very
fine) performance, that he chose them specifically to appear on the
    re-recording.

At the concert in London last year, Tomita mixed the first part of the
concert on a Roland VS880 mixer (by hand as it were), whereas the second
half dream sequences were processed through RSS.

Sorry for not having been clearer earlier :)

    Excellent.

    Thanks Nick and Benjamin.
I'll be looking forward to the studio version then.

    Regards Lance.
