It's not that hard to stop these idiots

First of all the the spam names are very easy to spot because they are
random generated garbage names. Just take a look at the ones in your Email,
the spam names stick out like a sore thumb. You can spot them even without
the dumb "check out this site" subject headings.


But really it's even simpler. In the group I am moderating, when we
switched off the option for automatic membership the spammers stopped
hitting us. They must go after groups with the automatic join option
selected. They know there's a good chance they will get at least a few hits
in before the owner boots them. (Of course they just come back with a new
name).
