I've only seen 2001: Space Odysessy and Doctor Strangelove.

I thought both were good movies. Doctor Stranglove was hilarious. I love Peter Sellers. 2001 lost me towards the end, but after reading the book it all made sense.

The Shining is creepy, but it is somewhat different from the book by Stephen King.
But still a good movie, love Jack Nicholson

I've seen Dr. Strangelove (there's a thread about it somewhere in here), as well as Clockwork Orange. They're both pretty interesting, although my friend thought Clockwork Orange was the craziest thing he ever seen. Actually, there were some pretty intense parts in that movie!

Stan's one of those directors you only get one every decade or two, His outstanding work on his earlier movies give him enough weight so that a movie will be popular just because he worked on it.

But, despite his superb directing on his films remember he didn't write them(not all of them at least)

(I just thought that should be said, I hate the way that a director is credited with so much, Anthony Burgess wrote a clockwork orange (his least favourite book) and Arthur C. Clark wrote the entire space odyssey series)

    Sorry touchy subject, :anime:

anyway stan is one of the best directors of recent years (heheh kind of got caught up in a mini-rant there)

yeah, a knew he didn't write most of the stuff, but he does do interesting takes on them though, as superfly said, his version of the shinning is alot different to the book.

my friend thought Clockwork Orange was the craziest thing he ever seen.

i can see why, it is pretty strange. ^_^. i think it's possibly his best though.

Yes, yes, Stanley Kubrick is a very good director. :) The Shining was superb. And Clockwork Orange.

Although Stanley didn't write the original books themselves, he is credited for writing the screenplays (which he DID do) and such for the movie. And as we've established that they are indeed different from the book they were dubbed, such as, 'Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining".'

Though, yes, a great man... besides that "Eyes Wide Shut" business. >:

But either way I think I'm more partial to David Fincher... I mean... c'mon... Fight Club and Se7en. :p Great bloody directing there.

The same director did se7en and fight club?? that explains a lot.

I never saw eyes wide shut and i never saw any decent reviews, what was it like? I've been trying to find a copy but it sounds like you weren't impressed

Well I'm rarely "impressed" with anything with either Tom Cruise or Nicole Kidman in it. ;P It was moreso a bad movie (in my opinion) because I just don't find them to be good actors (though I DO want to see The Last Samurai, maybe Cruise can save some face ;P). I think the only thing I remember liking Tom Cruise in was as Lestat in Interview With The Vampire.

Well, I wouldn't get my hopes up on The Last Samurai if I were you. It's a good movie, but no thanks to Tom.

I would like to see Clockwork Orange sometime for curiosity's sake.

I didn't remember that he did The Shining, unfortunately I haven't seen all of it since I was in the basement watching Tommy with my dad.

Well, Eyes Wide Shut, I only watched it because it had nudy nudy in it...
    ORGIES!
    =P

The Shining was a great movie, I loved the way he empathized the emptyness and isolation of the hotel, like little Danny riding his bike through the hallways and corridors of the hotel, without any other living soul present.

Clockwork Orange, my buddy has it on VHS, I should try and borrow it, I remember seeing it once on telelvision, lots of years back.
