I've always had a question: did Japan come up with the light-saber or did George Lucas? It seems that Japan has the only animators that consistently use light sabers of some form or another in animes (Tenchi, Gundam, Yu Yu Hakusho, etc.), yet the lightsaber is assumed to be used in Star Wars first. What is the REAL history?

Im a big time fan of Star Wars.

Im not sure on the lightsaber, but I do know A New Hope blatently rips off another Japanese film. I believe its called The Hidden Fortress (or something like that).

In it, a short, fat man and a tall, thin man must embark on a perilous journey along with friends they meet on the way to deliver plans which expose an uber-fortresses one weakness to a group of rebels.

    I'll get more info later.

Yeah, I'm a big star wars fan, have been for as long as I can remember. It's groovy. Empire's the best. Yup.
I've seen The Hidden Fortress, it's made by Akira Kurosawa(the same guy who made seven samurai and yojimbo), I wouldn't call it a blatant rip off, you probably wouldn't make the connection between the two unless you'd known about Lucas basing star wars on it. There are som parrallels, but there are plenty of differences. Worth watching for star wars fans though, the characters that became the droids are cool.

My dad's a HUGE Star Wars fan, which definitely rubbed off on the rest of my family. We even have a room in our basement DEDICATED to Star Wars. It has been a very integral part of my life ^_^

Do any of you have any 12" plastic 1980's Boba Fett dolls? If so, sell them while they are still valuable. Episode 1 and 2 were ok, but without the standards of 4, 5, and 6 I wouldn't doubt for a second that they will lose their value! Do it before Episode III comes! Salvage your old school merchandise, save you it can!!!
