Hi there again. I finally gathered the courage to inscribe myself in one of those online-dating programs. Not for dating, but to meet friends.

Here's the latest of my adventures in online meetings.

The only dating site i knew about was an *adult* one (yeah with nasty banners for nasty websites floating around). This is because I live in Mexico and I'm well.. a n00b in this matter of online meetings. So I disabled the nasty images with my FIREFOX browser :)

(Hopefully, I recently found a very good quality online meeting site now: match.com. It's personalized in my language (maybe it's got some IP detection or something, and redirects you to the appropriate language etc. So I guess i'll have more luck finding friends in there).

Anyway, in this nasty dating site, I found this girl, she's 22, and studies in college. I sent her a message, and she was like... cold. She said: "I'll meet you on MSN". Hey cool! My first e-message with a girl who lives NEAR me. We're progressing.

So, at work, I find her online, and say "hi! :D" with a big smile. Well, problem is, i'm at the job. To save possible problems with my boss, I ask her if she can mail me.

This is when things turned wrong, VERY wrong.

She doesn't like e-mail. "It's too impersonal", she says.
    WHAT THE F....?
    What do you mean impersonal!?

So, I ask her, kindly, why she thinks so. "I don't like it". Period. She didn't add ANYTHING more. I say "Well, I've shared my emotional moments with a couple of friends online, it's not that impersonal for me."

    "I don't like it."

So, I told her about my schedule, and why i NEEDED to use e-mail. But then she says "I just like to meet new friends, i don't have the need to tell about myself".

Well big deal!! Then why did you register into this online meetings site? Just for fun? To make fun of us geeks who are lonely and NEED such sites to find people in real/life to relate with?

Then I realize that there can be some people with a succesful life, who obviously don't need these sites. But I do. I do, dammit :(

I made a choice. I decided to remove her from my contacts. If a girl doesn't understand people's needs, or is intransigent enough to ignore pleas for friendship just because "I don't like e-mail", frankly, is too immature and selfish to be a good friend. The least I need is people like you.

Good bye, girl. It was a "pleasure" to meet you.

    Hmph.
