    The nice thing about university is that whenever a professor isn't there, you either get to go home or the lecture's been recorded so you just have to listen to it, or watch it, in some cases.
    There was one time, however, when my computers lab instructor was ill, and we had a substitute. Labs are the exception, you see, since we get marks for attending and work done therein, whereas a lecture is really just to learn and to help on the tests. This instructor, I don't know what nationality he was, but I could understand maybe two of every three words he said. Normally, I have no problems even with thick accents, no matter where from. But this guy ... whoa, I just could not get it. Luckily, we were only doing SPSS or Excel or something basic like that, so there was no real problem.
    When I was in high school, I once had a religion teacher fill in for my calculus class. My teacher had written out notes and assigned work and all that, but it's a little hard for someone who is used to explaining the Nicene Creed and Transubstantiation to explain logarithmic differentiation ... hells, I've been taking calc for three years and I can hardly explain that.

    Back in highschool, there was this one ancient, withered old substitute that we had a few times - some lady with an unpronouncible name that I couldn't spell even if I tried. XD She was so clueless, it was like she was senile. She could never explain anything, her writing was difficult to read, and I genuinely doubt if anyone could interpret her ramblings more than half the time. It was horrible. She would rail at us for not finishing our work by the end of the period, but it was hard to understand what she actually wanted us to do. The trouble was that she was the sub who usually filled in for our American History/English advanced block class - so we had tough assignments, in-class essays, other things that actually required some thought to get a decent grade on. How were we supposed to do that if we couldn't figure out what the heck she was talking about? Oh, and she had rancid breath. x_x;

    hmm... I don't recall any supply teachers in my classes. but then students esp. elementary tend to act worse when the regular teacher is away unless they are to get some special treat.. but even then they act so stupid. esp. elementary students near where I live. They act so bad then ask the supply teacher if she or he will give them a treat to reinforce their crappy behaviour. the supply comes in sometimes to the crappiest writing from the regular teacher which may say 'they are to do this at this time' but then when its time to do that, they say 'we finished that the day before' and nothing else is given for them to do and there are no chalk boards in the class or the supply didnt bring in any stupid games to play.
    If its elementary, in 10-20 minutes the supply has to decipher what the regular teacher wants done for the whole day, and will have supervision, since the school/board milks supply teachers like cows. In high school, usually other teachers who are working full time in that school have to cover classes during their preps and come in exhausted to be asked 'are you our supply?' in some idiotic tone and then asked difficult math or science questions when their brains are already fried from french or whatever.

    tbh some teachers especially in the ffl schools around here are not even qualified. Supply teachers, if in high school have at least 2 teachables. you may receive a gym teacher in your art class, or a math teacher in your french class. Some teachers don't have much luck finding permanent full time placements and others just enjoy some days off from teaching.
    If a teacher is a regular supply in your high school and looks pretty old, the chances are extremely high that she or he taught at that school until they retired perhaps from always teaching english and religion and then the school calls them to work since they prefer their regular experienced friends etc over new teachers who are broke and need work and experience. Then you get this old woman who taught drama and english into your math and science classes that doesnt recall what an even number is.
