    Not really.
    I mean its just a suggestion for over-protective parents, it really depends on the child-unit and what they can actually stand to see, with out having serious effects.
    Its just like with the age ratings in movies. I know 13 yr, olds that see R rated movies, but its not like its really wrong.

    Eh. The age ratings are just there to give a ballpark idea of what kind of language, violence, and potentially offensive content the manga contains. I mean, Adult Swim is 14+ - plenty of younger teens watch it anyway. Like chiquitabanana said, I'm sure the only people who pay too much attention to the ratings are particularly strict parents.

    Personally, I'm waiting to see some 18+ mangas. ~_^ (Joking, joking... mostly.)

    Well i got a good chuckle once when i saw a manga in a book store chain. That was 17 and up due to graphic imaging. And graphic it was. It was a Vampire novel, not sure what one, and there were nude women sprawled on floors and beds all bloody. Very close a S&M sort of hentai. o_oThen i realized how they dont enforce the reading age like they do with rated R, PG-13 movies etc. That any old 6 year old looking for the new Yugio could pick this up. XD (wouldnt that kid be surprised -_-) Gave me a little laugh. ^^;;

    But no one really follows it. I dont. I just avoid ones such as the one mentioned. -_-;; The ratings are really quite meaningless unless they ever really enforced it. I am glad they dont. The mangas really arent bad enough for them to be enforced.

    Which only proves that little six-year-olds ought not be allowed to run around unsupervised to look at anything they like. ~_^

    But it's true, written works and comics/manga generally don't seem to warrant as much concern as similarly-rated movies. I suppose people (in general; we know better) are pre-disposed to view manga as something for children, like many American comics are - lots of flashy stuff with nothing incredibly disturbing, unless it's in the Adults Only section.

    Besides which, manga deals with fictional characters, and overall the artwork isn't generally realistic enough to be graphically violent and/or potentially offensive. Most of the higher ratings are for language or mature storylines, which the average little kid isn't going to take an interest in anyway.

    I actually realized a long time ago that people don't much care what kids are looking at in comic or book stores. XD When I was 14, I was regularly buying issues of a comic that was about an inch away from an adults-only rating for violence, language, adult situations... The only reason it got away with being in the general section was that it didn't show genitalia or graphic sex. And many Japanese bookstores don't card you when you purchase adult manga - as long as you look like you're in your mid to late teens, anyway.

    As everyone says, I don't pay much attention to it either.Actually I hardly look at it. I usually flip through the manga and check the art and see if it's worth reading and buying. Sometimes I check the age restriction but otherwise not really. I avoid the explict ones and go more for humor, romance -that doesn't go off to the major details- and a good story line. Oh and of course ART!! Can't forget that!
