Yay. Summer vacation. Let's keep working...

Heh, I'm not too fond of summer myself...what's so great about it anyway? :p

I can tell it's that time of the year, though. My developed allergies over years of field work are kicking in full force, it's getting hot enough that I'm hard pressed to find cool dressing shirts for work, and above all...

I am becometh once again the Weed Whacker.

Yeah, I can tell when summer kicks full force by the tasks at my second job (dishwasher, oddjob guy). The weeds around this old restaurant building are merciless and grow to be 10 feet tall (okay 3, but when you're repsonsible for removing them, you exaggerate), and guess who has to cut 'em all? Not to mention the new batch around the parking lot nowadays...

Yup, me. I grab out 50' of extension and the musty old weed whacker they have at the place, and I set to work. It wouldn't be so bad if half the weeds didn't insist on exploding into milky juice when they get whacked by a high spinning fishing line...by the night's end I smell like a swamp, and I'm pretty green...and not with envy.

And it's at that point they point out the whole *other* side of the building that's crawling with even MORE of the vermin....gah.

Oh, and I also had a strange "sign" during cutting. :D I almost got hit by a car driving into a parking space. All I could see as it almost bore down on me was it's license plate (an older Michigan plate, in its characteristic dark blue)...JESUS. No, I'm not swearing...that's what it said. My first thought was, how egocentric can you get? But as I realized the car wasn't gonna hit me, actually being parked back more to allow me room to cut the weeds there...I saw the inscription above "You've got a friend in". Tell that to the weed guts all over me. :p

And that's one of my riveting work experiences. Maybe I'll share another one with you another time. If I feel like it.

BakaMattSu, so who can tell me the moral of this story?

It was embellished of course. The car was putting at about 5mph. :p

But I thought that'd be boring to read, ne? Now the other time I mentioned in the other post, *that* actually happened...I have a mangled bike to prove it.

BakaMattSu, moving into the top posting position now...1987's a good year.

My summer started about 5 weeks when my finals ended. And my summer ended 2 weeks ago when my summer class began. That is the price one pays for spending two semesters doing everything else but schoolwork. *sigh* Back to the homework.

(Six hours of HW after we take an exam today. SHE'S THE DEVIL I TELL YOU, THE DEVIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

    ...and the story continues.

Last weekend I once again faced down the evil weeds...Although this time the odds were stacked even more against me!

To begin with, the Weed Whacker was out of the picture...it ran outta wire....and to make things worse, the backlot weeds were now about as high as me at full height!

But the boss drug out a really rusty looking mower, and I got to work running 'em down and chopping 'em with a lawnmower. I would've down better with a machete. These weeds weren't just palying around.

I tell ya, it's a real pain trying to mow anything other than a lawn with a mower....I had the thing lifted to its full height, and full power, and I still had to shove the thing full force to get anywhere....

It didn't help that passerbys had treated the area as their personal garbage can. I had to run thru broken bottles, pop cans, plastic bags and the like....not fun when the mower cuts thru and sends pieces flying everywhere. And then there was this giant plastic tube running thru the middle....I don't even have a clue where that could've come from...

Oh well, after a good hour or so, I almost have the thing cut completely...with my luck, they'll have sprouted up again by the time I go in for work in two week's time (I took this weekend off :p)

BakaMattSu, continuing his life story for the amazement of none...

that's horrible BMS, did you get like glass shards stuck in your legs or anything... I would yell at the neighbours for that. I've had some trouble mowing the lawn as well lately, one time the mower just stopped working like every meter and smoke woul come from it. After taking my time I finally fixed it and realized that I should mow the lawn more often ;)

Oh and talking about weeds, HOLY CRAP!!! there's this HUGE BEAST of one that is growing in the old sand box in me back yard. It's almost the size of me! and what makes it worse is that it's pointy and sharp!!!!! I just touched it once (because I'm curious that way) and the thing cut me! I'm going to take a Zanzabout to that thing and it shall be anihalated!

Oi, it was even worse when I corn detassle in really crappy fields where there are fungus all over corn plants, or 2000 meter rows filled with sharp and pointy weeds. Is anyone else detassling this year, BMS??? we can do the weird trumpet noise thing and sing Final Fantasy music and recite the Star Wars abc's again ;)

Detassling is exactly what it says..."de-tassling", or removing the tassle from corn stalks...as with all field work, it is not a fun job, but a way to make money...

Gomen, Guy, but I won't be joining you this year...I have a comfy air-conditioned office job this time round...

And the Star Wars ABCs?! One of my many old Read-A-Long Books! I've memorized the thing, because it's so hilarious...and since I'm baka...I recite it while going up and down the field...

    Code:
    L is for Lando.

    Lando was a gambling man,
    always making bets.
He lost the Falcon ship to Han,
    to pay his gambling debts.

But he is general Lando now,
    he leads the bold attack!
And that why and also, how,
    he's got his Falcon back.

    Any other letter requests...:D

    BakaMattSu, yeah he's strange...

Walking AT-AT! That's sweet! Or not...if it got burnt.

    Code:
    H is for Han Solo.

They call him smuggler out in space,
They call him dashing in a chase.
    They call him brave,
    They call him loyal;
They call him daring in a broil.
Oh! And a name I near forgot!
    Leia calls our Han......hot shot.

What's the real funny part? Anthony Daniels reads half of them as C-3P0.....lol...

    BakaMattSu, his AT-AT's missing legs.....and his AT-ST too :(
