I would now like to express the great amount of joy experienced through Super Mario Sunshine. To put it plainly…Super Mario Sunshine is one of the greatest games ever made.

Thankfully I’ve had this game to pass by the long hours with no internet connection, but really, I wouldn’t mind giving my computer to a little boy sitting in the gutter for three weeks, while I do nothing but play the amazing title that goes by the name of Sunshine. I had about lost all hope in video games, and then this title came along. It had been so long since an amazing interactive experience had graced a console of any kind. I remember the Mario 64, and GoldenEye times fondly, and for the past four-year none other have really replaced them. After six years, Mario is back, and ready to dominate the dwindling world, yet again. For me Pikmin was a preview to this game, it showed us what next gen. gameplay should be like, but with Mario we get it full force. There are games, and then there are legacies, games that go so far beyond the norm that they live as a legend, and the followers quickly try to assemble. For example Super Mario 64 wasn’t JUST the first 3D platformer, it IS the 3D platformer. We could have had Mario in 3D, had a couple levels and been happy, instead Nintendo went above and beyond to make memories. They created a castle full of Mario magic, jumping into paintings, killing a ghost, and then shrinking into a pint size Mario that finds a Haunted Mansion within a birdcage. Paintings that change from a Princess to Bowser, endless staircases and other mind tricks filled the game to the brim. Running around Bowser grabbing his tail, then flinging him of the small platform to a bomb dangling in the air not a far off, only to have him come back in a rage that literally moved the ground beneath you. As you very well know, it wasn’t JUST 3D, it was 3D physics, 3D mind tricks, challenging puzzles, races against penguins, the game did everything, it was far beyond its time, and is still enjoyable to play. There aren’t many titles that do this, and between Nintendo and Rare, they have created the large majority of these games.

Miyamoto is like Lewis Carol; he uses many of the same elements as Alice in Wonderland, chasing bunnies, shrinking, or growing to enormous sizes, and odd creatures to boot. Even Majora’s Mask has many of the same story elements that Alice has. Alice in Wonderland is for children, and yet how can such a twisted, but happy world really be expectable for children? The greatest fairy tales are full or darkness; because of this they are able to have universal, and ageless appeal. It is something that is bashed in public, but is loved in private. He creates these fantasy worlds that have very little grounding to the real world, he goes beyond Mickey or Sonic to create pure imagination, with unbelievable balance. Tell me, why do you think Mario is such a beloved character? When was a man with a mustache ever known to be cute? Mario is a mix of mature elements, and cute structure, together they make a balance no one else has ever tapped into. While a mustache certainly isn’t a gun, it acts like an odd component that makes him loveable, because he isn’t purely based to one category he seems real to us in many respects.

Yes, there are many Mario titles, but one is never the same in gameplay, they all are in similar worlds but totally different, and refreshing experiences. It isn’t one hit after other; they are precious gems that only come around every blue moon. This element of quality is again returning to Nintendo, and hopefully people will once again see this. When you pop out 6 Tomb Raider games in a row, you lose something, you lose originality and quality, in many ways people have forgotten what real video games are because of third party domination among the consoles drenched in black darkness.

Super Mario Sunshine has never been done before, the use of water is so original and satisfying it must be played to be believe. Yes, it certainly is Mario, but wow, just when I thought Mario couldn’t get any more original they go out and blow me away! In the game you will use FLUDD a water pack to perform many basic functions in the game. You don’t JUST shoot water at enemies, and clean up goo, no, you also hover, fly to certain limitations, rocket 50 feet in the air, and even jet around the ground so fast it leaves Sonic envious. Again, Nintendo doesn’t just enhance gaming in one area, they do it in every area, and then go beyond that. The water pack is used in SO many ways, and creates so many new gameplay twists used in puzzles, collecting, and boss fighting you really have to wonder why no one thought of it before. But thankfully such genius was put on hold till now, because this game seriously makes real H20 quiver from such glorious competition. The water looks excellent in all of its many forms. There isn’t just one type of water in the game, there are about 20 different types of water I’ve seen, and I’m sure there will be more. The colors, and textures in the game do the Mario world justice, they are very playful, and detailed in such a visual way you won’t care for the tone loss, because it really just wouldn’t fit with Mario. Then there is the draw distance, for the first time I really feel like I’m in another world. Super Mario 64 made me feel like I was in a real environment, but this takes it miles beyond that…literally, you can seriously see things miles away, and the coolest thing is that you can actually go to those places. A lot of people thought Hyrule was cool, no, the Dolphino Island in Mario is cool. I feel like I’m in Disneyland for the first time.

Every element of this game is a step above anything else, and while people will always find something to complain about, the fact is the game is the closest thing to perfect. Yes, some people hate the camera system, but I personally think it is one of the best ever because it gives the gamer almost unlimited control.

A seriously pity anyone that doesn’t have this game. Like Pikmin, seeing this game or reading about it can’t get you too excited because it is so dependent on actual gameplay. This isn’t a book or a movie, this is an interactive experience we call video games. This is so purely a video game, that those who can’t become engrossed in it after picking it up, really have no belonging in the world of gaming. That’s about it. Your not going to find a game this good anywhere else, Nintendo rules supreme, and they show it here.

Yeah, thankfully I got my server back to normal. Too much has been happening.

Anyways, IF you don't have a Cube and are thinking about getting one some time in the future, buy the bundle coming out this October. I think the deal is a Cube/Controller, a memory card, and Mario Sunshine for 180 dollars, so you basically save 45 dollars.

But yeah, Zelda doesn't come out till about Feb. 2003.

it looked fun, from what I could see of it. Doesn't look too different from mario 64 in terms of graphics, but gameplay is something else.

Regarding Zelda: what are your opinions on the graphics there? From what I understand, it was going to look like this but they switched to a cell based/cartoon looking game. Do we care? or is the gameplay enough? Or do we like cartoon graphics?

Just curious.. I don't, nor will I ever, have a gamecube :p Might play one someday though hehe

Sounds good and I have a GC, but I have no money! It's because of the GC that I have no money and only one game!
