Let's all take a flashback to the original Final Fantasy. What is your ideal combination of group members?

Ow! How did you afford that? They're so freakin' expensive to get started! I mean, three spells each, at 100 gp each, that's 1200 right there, plus chain mail, at 80 gp each, another 320, and then rapiers, each 10, for a total of 40 ... that's a total of 1560 gp right from the start!
I always liked monks because they're the exact opposite. Cheap.
One fighter, one monk, one white mage, one black mage. Although in the end the fighter seems weak because the monk does more damage at higher levels.

Oh, the entry-level recommended Fighter/Monk/White Mage/Black Mage, eh? Probably my most used party setup, followed by Fighter/Red Mage/White Mage/Black Mage. I love magic... :p

If you wanna talk expensive, take a party of all Fighters. I went through the game with those, once. Steel Armor at 45,000 x 4 :)
Not to mention how tedious it was to stock up on 99 Heals before leaving town.

I'll admit to never using the Thief. I always found it the weakest class type in that game...

Yeah, but I really wished I had one in the last area when I found a weapon only Ninjas could use. Probably sucked anyway. I mean, what use is a thief that can't steal?
I beat the game with four monks once. That was a real challenge at the start of the game, but once you get to a point where you don't need weapons any more, you can pound pretty much anything into the dirt. Of course, damage is a problem since your armour sucks ...
