The good graphics, original gameplay, and fantastic storyline make The Metal Gear series best of all time.
Another thing i thought was good was that you got attached to the characters. Maybe a little too attached. As i was playing MGS on PSX, the more i played, the more i got to know about snake. Into his personal life, he has no family, and pretty much all his friends have backstabbed him, his love (Meryl) dies in the end (sometimes), his whole life he is ordered around, his BEST friend (Grey Fox/ Exosceleton) dies in the end, and all around him there is pain and suffering.
Sure, i know that's what makes a good game, and i know that he is just a fictional character, but don't you fell a LITTLE sympathy for him?
I know i'm gonna get alot of people calling me "weak" and saying "it's just a game" i know its just a game, but you know, sometimes you can't help feeling the way you feel. Don't ya reckon?

Considering Snake, the reason he has no family is because he was created from Big Boss. Made and activated to fight. Much like Universal Soldier...but cooler. Grey Fox was a war buddy, comrades because you fight the same war, but know that it could end at any moment. He *killed* him in MG2, I believe. And not all his friends betrayed him, none of the team in MGS did, other than the dude with the shades...and only because he was Liquid from the start...and Naomi, for getting revenge. As far as MGS2 is concerned, the General has disappeared...Meryl (I forgot) is either dead or left Snake...etc. Mei Ling actually still helps out the Philanthropists.

Not to say that I don't sympathize with what he's been through. To everyone else, he's a soldier first and foremost. Hell, he was kidnapped to do the mission in MGS. But, he did accept willingly...sort of. Plus seeing Meryl shot in front of him, like a wounded dog no less...and not being able to do anything about but to leave her alone...that would be quite disturbing in itself. Plus the Fox-Die program...there's no real way of telling him *when* he'll die because of it. It's either actively in his system, or it has become ineffective and dormant. How'd you want *that* hanging over your head?

Well, anyway, this *is* a video game. It's what makes things sell.

    ok, but

But you see, in MGS2, he is reduced to hiding among the bad guys. He is unshaven, smelly and he hasnt talked to the outside world for quite a while.
And how you said that he was created from "big Boss", i know that, that is why i said he has no family, and the family he does have are all trying to kill him:( .
He may have killed him, but in the end you really feel for him, especially when liquid says "you cant protect any one..."
    dam that musta hurt.
**** gotta go add to this later

Reduced!? IMO, MGS2 was a little worse for wear than MGS, storyline wise...but in no way was Snake reduced to ANYTHING. He just didn't have government back up at any given time during both the tanker and the oilrig mission. If anything, if you played entirely as Snake, you'd probably see how much he shined, being able to do the things he did in MGS2. More so than "Raiden".

And, how was he disguised as an enemy? He was framed as an enemy, because of his Philantrophist connections...which isn't TOO far from the truth. The whole point of Philanthropy is to commit Terrorist acts to sabotage ANY Metal Gear. So, of course he's going to get massive amounts of heat for that, considering the Legendary Soldier that he is suddenly decided to go altruistic. And he is unshaven because Snake don't really shave...in honor of Snake Plisskin from "Escape from LA" for whom he was named after...I never once did hear that he wasn't anything but clean, other than the sea lice, but that's only because he *did* swim in. And if you noticed, when you entered the tanker...there were a LOT of sea lice. And he is in CONSTANT connection to the outside. What do you think Otacon is for? He knows more than Raiden, and the rest of the new Fox Hound put together.

I guess you're saying that he hasn't lived a normal life? You're right when you say that. Seriously. I *think* this was in an MGS game...or it could have been in a movie...but "once a soldier, always a soldier". Oh, and by the way, you CAN get Snake to shave in MGS2...so, unshaven doesn't really work too well. :D :p

Oh, and I caught and remembered my mistake. There was no General in the MGS team. It was Colonel Campbell. My mistake.

    Shaven Snake!

When you first get to the bottom of strut a, the minisub doc, shimmy around the rails until you can get to an area with an item called "Shaver." You will give this to snake automatically towards the end of your first encounter.

But yeah, snake really has gone through lot of ****,

    -spoiler! loooook awaaaay!!!!-
what with him killing his "father", Big Boss; his war buddy, Grey Fox; and his "brother," Liquid; and then having that ***** turn on him in MGS like that?
    -end of spoiler!-

Personally, i think he should just retire to florida or hawaii or something...Kojima's through with MG games anyway -_-=.
