Has anyone picked up ShutterBox by TOKYOPOP yet?

I was a bit leery of this "American manga", but considering that Studio Tavicat (a husband and wife team of Tavisha Wolfgarth-Simons and Rikki Rosearik Simons) has been doing this kind of thing for a while, I thought I'd give it a try.

Don't be fooled -- this is by far one of the *best* American manga stories I have ever read, and that's just in the first volume. There are a lot of mixed influences that show in the art, from "Japanese gothic Lolita" outfits to classical Greek/Roman creatures.

I think everyone who likes a good story should give it a try... it gave me, at least, a different outlook on American manga. It's surprisingly deep and quite original.

(I should also mention that Tavisha is a really cool individual. I have e-mailed her a couple of times, and her replies have been intelligent and funny. It's clear that she cares about her readers, and she takes the time to write nice long replies instead of just a few sentences like you might expect. :) )
