Did you think about this when you saw The Canadian and American Hockey Team play in the Olympics?

I agree in some ways, some professionals just don't have their heart in the sport they play anymore. Some just think of all the money. But heck, I don't know most of these people anyways, it just comes off that way, we get the impression through all the news reports about some players that they just don't care.. oh well. They aren't all like that.

I think that the players who reach the Million dollar pay brackets.. thats when it becomes about the money and not the sport.. A lot of the young players who Don't make as much Has a lot of hopes and dreams about the sport.. But the old players its like.. ah well i only keep playing cause they pay me good..

But that is my view from looking from outside the Box.. Maybe the older players have just become tired And dont put the same effort into the sport as they once did..

I just think that sports in general has become too commercialized. Too many sponsorships, too much thrown money. Take some of the more "oddball" sports...curling, skeet shooting, etc. There are many more serious players in that sport (at least it seems to) because there's not really the invitation of money and sponsorships all over the place.

Those big ticket sports (I guess I'll include Hockey as well...) have so many things pertaining to sponsorships and money that the love of the game is lost in the hustle.

I agree though, for the most part. It's almost sad to see sometimes, when you seem to *know* they're not playing with everything they have.

This probably happens alot in the Olympics more than regular sports, just becuase these are more "High Stake" events. But it's true you can see that many players are in it for the moeny. Just look at MTV cribs.

Truthfully, I see it less in the Olympics. There you're fighting for the Gold, moreso than an NBA player is fighting for his fat paycheck. =]

Well, it all depends on the sport I believe. Some sports actually dont give a damn about how much money they are paying you. If you arent performing well, then you wont be there for long.

I play hockey and I love playing the sport. I have meet a few people that just don't care about hockey. I play at a YMCA and one season was just...arrr...the coach at the time didn't care about how good we were playing, if we were playing correctly or anything else for that matter. He just care if he was getting paied or not and when he was, he would just say 'good job' or something else and talk to women all practice. And one season was canceled because there wasn't enough people. My mother, myself and a few others were saying to them that on the day practice comes, there will be a dozen people there at least but they wouldn't listen anyway. They also said that the costs for it was too high. What costs are you talking about?!! Just turn on the lights for it and we can get it going without the YMCA's help but they still wouldn't listen. We got so mad over that we just canceled our membership with them and a few others did too. Why did they say all of this, 'money', that's why! I still play hockey but I don't play it for money, I play it because I like the sport.

Well, in your case you arent getting paid or getting paid enough money to actually stop caring about the sport. I mean I love the sport of soccer. But If I start getting paid like millions and millions...I think that anyone would just stop caring. I mean, why else would you sign a big contract right?

You're missing my point. If someone was going to pay me millions of dollars to play on a team that no longer cared about the sport, I won't play for them. I don't care if I was going to be the richest man in the world, I would not play for their team. I enjoy playing hockey but I won't play it for money.

But you see, people tend to make a sport there career. They have to get paid in order to live. Eventually they end up doing good and get paid more. So professionalism in a sense doesnt start off in the beginning. Its like a virus that grows and grows. This virus propelled by money...

See, right now, you wont play for the money. But eventually, youll want to live off this sport (as some people have to take that choice) and thats when you get paid more, and as you get older....care less. Thats my view of things.

I know I would have to live off the sport sooner or later when I get older but if the people I play with no longer care for the sport or they just play for money, I'll try to find another team less like it. I would like to if I go pro to teach younger kids.

Teaching younger kids is always a blast ^_^. It gives me a sense of accomplishment all the time. Though it is sometimes annoying lol.
