All of these Debate topics I had posted I found.. Did not really have Time to Put my own thoughts together at the moment.. Was just trying to Breath some New life into things..

Anyway What Does it mean.. IS the "UN" a spent Force.. Basically what it is saying is. " Is the United Nations Doing its job?.. Or has it just become an Useless organization??"

So from My understanding the United Nations was set up to Get the Worlds Nations To put together a joint force of Aid Workers, and Military personnel to go into War torn areas and Help keep the peace and rebuild towns..

Now the Problem with the United Nations is That a tribal war could break out, One tribe could start mass killing of men, women and Children and They Can't do anything to stop it.. They have to stand By and watch.. So in Saying that What is the point of the UN if they can't use force to keep the peace and save lives..????

I know I for One would Hate myself if i was a Soldier and Forced to Stand By and watch people kill themselves, rape people and stuff Just because its Against the UN's code to get into the action..

I agree with you totally. That kind of guilt would be unbearable. So we should just give them the power to do so. If not, they're just a group of people with a nice job.

And you called me a spammer. :p

Anyway, I don't think the UN is a "spent" force, per se, but rather that it does need some serious reforming. For example, it's forced to sit and do nothing when one of the permanent members of the security council has an interest, because they can simply veto any action. The only reason the UN took part in the Korean War for example was because the Soviet Union's representative wasn't attending.

In this situation for example I'd like to see participants among the permanent Security Council (IE France, Britain, USA, Russia, China) lose their veto powers when they're clearly involved in a given situation, such as the US invasion of Iraq.

Secondly, I think there are reforms in situations where troops are sent in a peacekeeping or peacemaking mission. As you say, UN soldiers are forced to sit and watch people kill each other- I believe they should be empowered to act as they believe is necessary to put an end to whatever conflict is going on and also to act so as to minimize loss of lives.

Apart from that I've probably got more ideas but I'm better at responding to a point of view than presenting one.
