    In just magic, or overall?
    Well, in just magic, I'd definitely say FFVI because you just point, click, fight, and win. It also helps that there was the one forest in The World of Ruin with the Tryanosaurs and Brachosaurs. Plus the fact all the little bonuses that come with equipping an Esper. You don't get your stats raised as much as the newer FF's...but you can make a powerful fighting force in a short time. VIII's is much the same, because of the Islands Closest to Hell/Heaven. But it's a pain to try and get a hundred of each of the major spells...all for the junctioning...*brrrr*

    The sphere grid is good, but your stats don't actually raise all at one time...and when I first started playing, there'd be some parts where I took an hour out of storyline to get more levels. Gah!

    I much more preferred when magic was more "special"...another gripe I had with the ff8, ff6, and even ff7's system styling. Anybody with the help of the right equipment suddenly turned into a master spellcaster able to utilize anything as if they were born with it. (Okay, so you had to "earn" the use of spells sometimes, but anyone could do it.) My favorite system was no system...yes, ff4's magic system. Those with spells just learned them at pre-ordained levels...the more powerful summons had to be earned for Rydia, but the magic was more unique to every character that way...and felt more special to me.

    Now if I had to choose a system, I'd say ff8 was very flawed. UNLIMITED (pretty much) summon capabilities? Why bother including an 'Attack' option? I know that's exaggeration (since I use summons sparingly), but....

    Other than my opening gripe, I favor ff7...it blends earning the spells with either buying the Materia (or finding it) with earning ability points to access the higher level spells. And there are also penalties for some Materia equipping (i.e. Summons usually sap a lot of strength) and limitations based on how many slots you have...It was well-balanced.

    I agree with Matt that someone should be born with the ability to use magic or summon, like in FF9. But I still like the materia system in FF7 the best because it seemed to be very customizable, and you can level up the materia by using it, and mastering it ;) I thought it was always fun to master my alls and sell them for like 800 000 gil ^^;;

    I only need two real summons in the entire game of FFVIII, so I included that in my choice. Doomtrain and Diablos, and that's it...although I don't even use Diablos that much. It is kinda unfair though, once the compatability level goes up, because it just kinda defeats the purpose of fighting long, drawn out battles with bosses.

    On the plus side, bosses gain levels as you do. And I'm still working on a way to get to the last disc below lv. 20. Freaking, I got caught up at 22 and I only had one save file. :(

    yeah i agree with BakaMattSu and the shoe in head guy (,did they catch the guy that threw it yet?:))

    i think it is better how in FFix there is only a select few magic users and summoners,as it makes each character different from the next.But!!,......FFvii has got colour coding,....it's close

    Although I do agree that not every character should be able to use magic, but my favorite magic config is the matria config from FFVII.

    I favour FFVII. It's the simplest and best in my oppinion, and I think it has the best spells/summons and also the groovy independant, command and junction materia. Groovy. I do like the way in FFIV not everyone can use magic, but I don't think it works as well in IX, because in IV you don't get to choose your party(the characters drop like flies). It's all good though. I think VIII is the worst one however, it's over complex and not much fun to use.
