Travel The 'Guess where' game.

So, Lately I've been a fan of the travel channel. I guess it's been boredom, or started as such, but now I watch it willingly. I mean, I love some of the places they show and deep down wish I could go.

So, I decided maybe we need a game for this forum. Something to just keep us..Enlightened on various locales.

So, here's the object of the game: Guess the country.

Giving hints: Simple. Give a bit of info, or post a picture of a historic figure/monument/other associated with the place. Specify if you want the country or if you want a city.

I don't know if this is a repeat or if anyone cares to play but I'll start it off.

It's a buddhist Island nation south of India that was recently rocked by a rather large Tsunami.

 

Sri Lanka.

Geography always was one of my strong points. I could have gotten that without the tsunami bit.

Since it's been over a month, I'll just tell you- it's Normandy, in France. It's a system of old trenches from the world wars.
