now we select the compression codec... I heavily favor MPEG1-Layer 3(fancy way to call MP3) with DivX

as you can see in this picture their is a good collection of codecs for audio... MPEG layer 3 is the most stable for me in divx so, i recommend this

Yes, it might be good to explain Job Control and Batch Processing in this thread now, SaberJ2X. It can save the need to sit around and wait for the 1st pass to finish. DivX encodes can take quite some time to finish, after all. ;)

ok the *don't run these job now, .....* button, is for making batch processing... that means running several passes 1 after another, and/or multiple diferents movies you want to compress, as bakamattsu told... is true, divx can take a long time compressing, depending on resulotion and quantity of filters you may have applied it can range from 78fps to 6fps, normaly a movie from DVD is 24fps... so if it is encoding at 6fps to encode it will take 4 times as long as the movie is, from 2hours to 8.

here is a pfoto of were is that button, FILE > Save AVI

OK, the only diference is you don't have to wait until the first pass is finish to go on, to make the changes necesary for the second pass.

now... to see the batch process menu, go to, FILE > Job control, or simply press the "F4" button in the keyboard

OK, this is the batch process window... in this window you can... arrange in which order you want to movie to be processed, trust me... let this alone unless you defenitely know what you're doing.. hehe. set it wrong and you'll waste time.

OK, firt the 1-pass encoding (as I said, name it as 1.avi)
then the second pass encoding (the name of the movie)

then.. press the button START, and your done... the virtual dub automatically will start the first pass, andw when he finishes it will start automaticaly with the second pass.

    DVD guide?

    OK fine for avi files.

Could you please write the steps (as detailed as possible) needed for the ripping of DVD vob files? i.e. I want to rip the first chapter from an anime dvd with 8 chapters. What do I need to do? and what differences are there with the previous guide you wrote?

    Thanks! :catgirl:

So are we against fair use then? I back up DVDs I own and leave them in their case and only watch my divx versions, which usually take up 2 CDs..

    Anyway, there's always google..

    PS: (saberj2x) bingo ;)

Err, as far as I know the site I posted is completely legal. What's with the edit?

It's a perfectly legit DVD backup resource site :)
