    Closest you'll get in english is 'fanboy', I believe. It's a rather negative word in Japan.

    To Japanese Otaku is the equalavlint to comic geek here, not nerd, geek. And otakus down there are losers that buy porn games and watch all the real crpapy otaku shite.

    In America,Otaku is a stupid word that fanboys use to try to make themselves sound superior.I actually hate the word.I see tons of things about anime where people say things like,"Hey,Otakus!",and it makes me sick.I like anime.I don't need a stupid word to tell people that I do.I'm not a fanboy.

    Most of the otaku I tend to see are lsoers who cna't get their sex. Boo hoo for them. :D I'm nastyyyyyyyyyy~

    I agree.It is a dumb word.That's why I don't use it.And my definition of fanboy is the guy that's 47 and lives in his parents basement.He also knows more about the new Tomb Raider game than he knows about his own family.The kind of guy that stays up all night kissing his picture of Wonder Woman.THAT'S a fanboy.

    Since we defined fanboy let us define fangirl.

    For fangirls, it's completely different. They are usuauly young girls, rnaging 10 to 18 that have an obsession with one character cause no other boy in this world seems to be as hot/smart/nice/absloutly perfect as they wnat them to be, so they obsess over a cartoon/anime guy that is their 'dream' guy. Example, I am a fangirl of Seto Kaiba, he's my dream guy and with good reason! Alos, to sound cuter, younger fangirls are refered to as fangirlies.

    so what if a guy has an obsession with a anime female? would he still be considered fanboy? also, if a fanboy is in his 40's, wouldnt he be considered fan-middle-aged-man? i think the word fanboy confuses some people, like me. i didnt know what it meant. i thought it was just some huge fan of an anime, by the sound of the word i mean. understand where im coming from?

    Well, I consider myself to be an otaku, but..i dont masturbate to cartoons. Thats what pr0n is for.

    Anyway...labels are just that, they're labels. They only have meaning if we let them. So, just ignore it.

    (P.S. - Wouldnt it be cool if my last name was Bates? Then, people could call me Mister Bates. It sorta sounds like Masturbates.)

    If you want the LITERAL meaning, it's "home". Actually, it's the honorific of it, since just "Taku" means home. Then, as is with many japanese words, the word itself can mean different things. As is the case, you're thinking of an otaku in the western sense...as it has become synonymous with anime. However, it can also be said to be a socially-inept, therefore, loner type of a person. i.e. one that doesn't get out of his home much. So, in essence, it's just anyone who has an odd affinity for staying home and in his own world. (read: Izzy Izumi)

    And Fushigi Rockna, while your contempt for the male of the species is staggering, it brings no point. Just because one is an otaku, one doesn't need to masturbate to it. And the way you make it seem, it's just a little sexist towards the female of the species. No offense though, I'm just pointing out something I gathered from what you're written. Or even at least tell me that some girls *are* capable of manzuri, say, when gazing upon a picture of Tamahome, or some other bishounen.

    Bleh, don't take me serious, I was joking around when I used that ol' word. :rolleyes: One thing you shuld never do, tkae me seriously when my words are in caps lock, it's usually brusts of rage or me being really stupid. Either that or I'm trying to make soembody laugh.

    I was somewhat refering to Japanese fanboys, the real otakus. Those guys scare me, they buy porno games o_O and you cna just guess why...
