Anime The most overrated/underrated Animes ever^^

OK....Which animes do you think were overrated, or underrated?
I mean, they're are hundreds of anime we will never see or hear, let alone hear praise for...But if by chance you have seen one of these animes, please tell us about them.

then there are those animes that are publicized widely, yet still wasn't worth your time.....((appleseed remake))

well, the most overrated anime to me is inyuasha...It's not very original, and IS LONG.....@.@

the most underrated anime for me is Darkside blues....That anime is soooo dark, and the plot is amazingly simple...yet so complex. the characters show actual emotions, and thats always good to watch.

 

I could'a sworn this was done before, but I can't find the thread. Oh well, maybe I was thinking about an over/underrated character thread...

Overrated: I'd have to say Pokemon. The show is really pretty crappy, and yet, it was hailed as so great for such a long time. It doesn't even have a section of it's own here!

Underrated: Saber Marionette J. Although it's popular here, nobody I know in real life has heard of it except the people I've told about it. (And the person who told me about it)

Shinryu, sometimes, underrated can be a good thing...

 

I'd have to agree with you on both.

Pokemon....*sigh*....c'mon. You really cant say the show is great. Not even good. Not even....you know what! Ill stop there with Pokemon.

And as far as Im concerned, all I've heard about the SMJ Series is nothing but greatness (also compliments of Shinryu and jedimido). I really want to get the series.
You're most likely to hear the words..."OMG dude WTFBTWLOL, you gotta get SMJ, because of Cherry (Shinryu....)"... and practically never hear "Dude.....you should watch pokemon! Peecachuu is the bomb!"

I still haven't seen the SMJ series, but then again, I am a fan of the anime network. They haven't shown it, therefore I haven't seen it....XD
I just realized another highly underrated series.

If you have ever seen BlackJack, please pm me...I have fallen in love with the anime. It's not as amazing visually as some, and the characters won't touch your hearts, but the plight some characters go through will make you stop and think.

BlackJack...An unliscened physician who, for large amounts of money, will cure any illness, romove any growth or keep you alive at any costs.

I think the series runs all of 6 episodes...Maybe more, but in those 6 episodes, I found myself enthralled by the way BlackJack performed surgeries, or how he came to certain conclusions as to what his patients illness may be.

Not many intelligent anime come around anymore. I always though Ghost in the Shell was one of the few, but ironically noone understood it....
Well, BlackJack is another I think deserves praise. With age come quality in some cases...Especially when the networks are dishing out animes like pokemon and yu-gi-oh all year.....~_~

 

Overrated:

I hate to say it but Eva...seriously people its good I wont deny that but I personally dont think it warrents the amout of rabid fans and huge mass of merchandise that it has.

Underrated:

Big O: Come on, I love that show. Theres so much more there than people give it credit for. The subtities of the show really get me, the slow development of the relationship between R. Dorothy and Roger Smith and the jazz music kicks ass.

Most over-rated anime: eh, it depends on one's opinion. Me personally, I think NGE is pretty over rated. I mean...people sent death threats to Hideki Anno over the ending. DEATH THREATS people. That's just too extreme, and I don't think it was that great of an anime to get that worked up over..(heck no anime is that great to get that worked up over)

Under-rated anime:
Speaking of GAINAX, damn Nadia: Secret of Blue Water, for being the great anime it is, is left in the shadows I find. So sad, cause it's so good.

 

Pokemon was never named the greatist lol... It was kids show that kids enjoyed. Big deal! I like the fact they got creative with the pokemon. I just respect the fact the show like that can go so long and be so simple in storyline and plott. I think that is good skills there. I guess I see things diffrently then some people.

I don't believe things are overrated. I think that is stupid. Just because something is liked by many doesn't make it overrated. It just makes it liked and maybe people might not like it doesn't mean it is overrated. That is just my two cents.

Well underrated is slightly diffrent because it is good shows and animation that is not seen because of money issues or the company that produces the show or whatever. One show that seems to have gotten a lot of credit but then was lost by everyone because it happen to not air on television any more was Blue Sub #6. It was a well crafted short series that got to the point at the end leaving only little questions. I thought the animation was grand and it had good character designs.

 

I was about to say the same thing, but I was too lazy to type it out. XD

 

Overrated? Pokemon for the win.

Underrated? For some reason, I consider Princess Tutu as underrated. The show is really good, sure a gigantic talking cat, but still. It's really great.

I feel Chobits, Gundam Seed, and Naruto are overrated.

 

The chobits anime was really overrated compared to the manga...I hate Hideki's voice, and chi is annoying...

 

Overrated: Trigun (don't like it very much), Full Metal Alchemist (it got boring for me after the first few episode), Inu-Yasha (it's a fun show, but the hype is just ridiculous)

Underrated: Outlaw Star (people don't know what they're missing)

 

For overrated: InuYasha (I love ranma better, sorry), Pókemon (winner man), and....

oh yeah, Dragon ball and it's evil children Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT!!!

This is the most annoying anime I've seen in my entire life!!! one battle lasted like an entire season!!! and then, everybody died and resurrected so easily, it got so silly, I have no words to describe how senseless, annoying, and... I told you, I have no words to describe it (My english is not the best so I think it's part of the problem but you get the idea)

 

Overrated: Inu Yasha (I really like IY, but as mentioned earlier the hype is too much...), DragonBall

Underrated: Hm don't know.... maybe the R.O.D ova, I haven't heard much of that, and I really like it....

underrated: absulutly no one i know or heard of has seen pretear!!! its an awsome show it made me cry at end which is saying something beacause i never cry in movies.

 

overratedokemon and Duel Masters. What's so great about stupid little squirrells that go "pika!" all the time and a game that copied MTG and YGO?

 

Overrated: Poke'mon and Yu-Gi-Oh. -Enough said.

Underrated- Read Or Die. Although I have only gotten to see a few of the episodes it is great so far.

 

Overrated: A friend of mine said that Neon Genesis Evangelion is overrated. For no apparent reason, I'm finding myself slowly leaning towards that statement. Perhaps he's just influential but maybe in the first place, I did think so as well. Considering the fact that it's not that great (I swear I have nothing against NGE), extreme commotion are pulled out by it. I mean, it's inessential, all these efforts over an Anime. The amount of money spent over NGE is not even that of something someone would call "necessary".

Inu Yasha was also overrated. True, it's good. I have to admit I'm a fan, but here I see these tons of people around roleplaying Inu Yasha characters (Me and a few others started to call them InuWannabes in the end.). It's enough to have watched it, but I guess they just have to be exactly like them. I mean, when I asked one of them what his name is, he told me he was Inu Yasha and even dared go far beyond the line by saying I was dumb not to notice the nickname he was using. (I've seen them on IRC, yes.)

Underrated: I'm thinking Saber Marionette and Di Gi Charat are pretty underrated. They are popular around the net, but not even one of my friends had ever heard of them. It was not until SMJ was shown on TV here before a few of them acknowledged the Anime. And it's worse for Di Gi Charat, because it wasn't advertised or shown around, there are scarcely few who knows about it here.
