    What's yours?

For mines, the only problem is that the obsession for a certain anime only last for a while. That's the only problem. Changing from a favorite to another is the most painful time. It happened to me so much in the past. :(

I think the only problem is having to explain what it is to everyone I meet who asks "what are you drawing", "what's your hobby" or something along those lines, then they say "like pokemon?!?" and I have to explain that 'anime' isn't chinese for 'pokemon'. Thats more what I hate about school life actually, but it's the only problem with anime I can think of ^_^

It's reputation. I mean, so many people just think it's cartoon nudity and all that crap. It's not embarassing, but I hate it when people look at me funny when I'm at work and I bought some anime. *sigh*

Oh, that, and when people ask, "Why do you watch it in Japanese?"

    Anime in Mexico

Here in Mexico we have a different story. It all started with a show called Saint Seiya (about some mystical warriors wearing magical armors yadda yadda).

Full of violence, gore and blood, this show became a favorite for many, and it started an anime boom. Soon many Anime shows were aired here, like Ranma 1/2, Dragonball, DBZ, Sailor Moon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and so on.

Still, in open TV only a few shows are shown, and the most popular are DBZ and Pokémon. Since we are in a very conservative society, not all anime is aired for the sexual references etc.

Anime is very popular among the comic and roleplaying clubs. Still, when I speak of "anime" or "japanese animation", normal ppl often reference DBZ or Pokemon, or Ranma (the most popular anime shows on open TV). I can't complain, I have cable :p and anime has a greater percentage here than on the US - because we only have about 8 opentv channels on the whole country, and only two of them have cartoons/anime.

I only wish anime didn't include sexual-related stuff so often, that way they'd air more anime shows on open TV.

But at least I can't complain about dubbing. Mexico has the best dubbers on the American continent ^_^

*I totally know what your saying at school whe had to right a poem about us and I put I love to wach anime shows and the teacher thought i was trying to spell animal shows, but what I mostly hate is when i'm drawing anime characters, beacause people dont know what they are I guess they just dont understand. The only people at my school that have ever seen any anime are boys and the only shows that they see is Yu Yu Hakasho and Yu-Gi-oh so at school there is really know one to talk to about anime*

Luvweaver, I dunno, the fact that there's more sexual oriented stuff is something of a magnet for some of the fans that I know. I mean, at least it's not all kiddy and stuff. Anime has a very wide range of audience, and of course you're gonna have innuendo like that. It's government that censors that stuff because they think we can't handle it. Give it time, they're showing more and more stuff like that on "people" shows that in time, they'll show just the same amount of stuff like that on a special anime channel or something. Like the ADV one. I mean, if they DON'T show Evangelion in its entirety, then it's kinda bad business for them, right? Hell, if ADV does plan on doing their own, or at least, an anime channel for anime FANS, then...why not show in its entirety? Dirty Pair Flash, GoldenBoy, NGE, they're all ADV. It's gonna be ugly publication if they don't at least show MORE of what the real story is, rather than heavy editing. And to be honest, if it wasn't more "adult" I doubt I'd love many of the stories even more. Even your much vaunted SMJ has lots of hints of that. How many times does Bloodberry (the animated one, not the lovely woman who's a moderator ;)) come on to Otaru? How many times does Cherry fantasize about him? And the Saber Doll's outfits? And the "talent show"? How funny or misplaced would that have been if Luchs didn't act like a wierd Shampoo? And don't get started on the Hanagata part! (Sorry Lady Aoi, had to put him in.) With no Hanagata falling in love with Otaru, there would be no comic relief, nor would he have an ally that's so willing to risk his own self for Otaru as a distraction.

The way I see it, "adult" oriented stuff should be RATED. They already do that, so there's no problem. It's the fault of those who control what we watch. I mean, seriously, Fox showed us Tenkuu no Escaflowne right after freakin' POWER RANGERS!! I mean, considering Escaflowne, of COURSE it's gonna get cancelled, and all that crap. Escaflowne is about WAR, hope too, but WAR plays so much a part of it that not having it shown or having parts edited for it is killing both it, and anime's reputation. People don't know that it's not ONLY for kids (i.e. Pokemon, and even THAT has homosexual tendencies in it...or at least cross-dressing tendencies) but for a very wide range of audiences. A lot of people don't realize that. *sigh* Anyway, that's a good rant, I just got kinda irked that you'd want it to be a little less "sexually oriented"....but even Ranma has sexual implications (especially Nodoka, and Shampoo) and that's shown on the air. It's what makes it anime for teens. Teens grow up, y'know. :D ;)

Mostly, it's other peoples problems with it that bugs me. A lot it does. Another problem is it's lack of availability in ireland. That pisses me off. Editing pisses me off to.

In Michigan, or online sometimes, I ask the if they like anime, or tell them my favorite show, they ask whats that, I say a type of anime, anyways, some were comepleatly clueless untill I said, "Like pokemon or Dragonball Z." Annoyed me much. Also, (refering to dubbed, always) the fact that they think there is
    Or anime is for children.

    ???

I hate it when people say it's stupid just because it's a cartoon, or because it's from Japan.
"It's Gotta be stupid if it's not pure amarican!" I hate it when I get that. I personaly, dont really like that many USA made cartoons. They lack plot. Ot the plots to complicated.

I hate haveing to explain to people what the show is when I draw it. It's so Annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alot of ppl I know keep on making fun out of my obession of anime, manga, and my interest in the Japanese culture.
I also agree on the point that some ppl are ignorant, I mean they've seen pokemon and digimon and then they take it as if all anime is pokemon, digimon and sailor moon.

the negative side of anime is, it's too addictive, and distracting. I cannot stand doing something while others are talking about anime or watching an episode. It's always a temptation for me to take a break from my studies when there is something about Japan or anime going on.

well, i have the same problem as u guys.
people always say "u like anime, huh? thats cool. wats anime?" and "how gay r u, watching little cartoons" and "u horney bastard"
pisses me off. usually i say "**** u" or stuff like that, but, u know, still pisses me off.
another bad thing about anime is the shitty ones(pokemon ect) that give the better/good ones(evangelion ect) a bad rep. pisses me off.

Yeah, it's mostly other people's ignorance of anime that makes being and anime fan frusterating.

One of the current problems I have with anime itself is too much gratuitous fanservice. I was just watching Ranma 1/2 the other day where Shampoo gives Akane amnesia by washing her hair, and my brother made the comment "You know, if this show was made in today's times, there would have been three different angles of Shampoo's panties shown as she flipped over Akane." In a way, he was right!

Really, I don't mind the occasional fanservice, but I don't like anime that is almost made for it (like Love Hina). That and the plethora of perfect bishounen or busty schoolgirls is getting annoying. And the fangirls/fanboys that they produce.

Give me more original character designs!

    hai?

    -when dubbed stuff is stupid
-when subbed stuff is clearly wrong/doesn't make sense
-when people ask me why i'm obsessed
-when the series in america ends before the whole series is finsihed
-when anything is cut or changed from the original

Besides all that...and maybe stuff i haven't thought of or has already been said...
    ANIME ROCKS!

I think if your school had more azns and you got along with them well you wouldn't be all that aware of the westerners' ignorance towards Japanese culture and anime.
