I'm assuming this is Fushigi/Ayashi no ceres. yep, so just wondering, as it's bothered me for some time, in the first episode ( or second, can't remember) Where Aki and Aya's grandfather gives them the gift to open, and there is a stone hand in the box (which later explodes).....what does that hand symbolize exactly? I mean, why is it there? Where is it from? I think maybe this question may make me look stupid, but I'm posting it anyway. ^^

I'm not so sure of what it means since I"ve seen 6 episodes of the series so far. I guess it has something to do with the fisherman who stole the Hagoromo robe.

I'm not sure either, but I think that hand determines if a certain Mikage girl has Ceres in her...hmmm...maybe it's Ceres' hand...afterall they did kept her body...

I was actually thinking that as well sailorvenus, but, I don't think they'd have chopped off her hand....her being sacred and all that.
    Hrm. I just don't know.

It is kinda wacky...they didn't give any explanation for that one. But probably that hand is kinda mystical or whatever...

That Stone hand is the same thing that Aya had vision when she wanted to return the stolen purse; she fell of the bridge but luckly she floated... while that happen she vision a hand covered with blood that looked exactly like the stone hand!
The hand she visioned I guess was the fisherman's hand.
Aya had destroy that hand! So the story passes on with Aki being the fisherman, and the proof is the scares.
Those scares are proof for Ceres to know how had stolen here Hagoromo robe.
The Angel and Fisherman were married, right? So whenever one of the Mikage family brings twins, the girl symbolize the angel ((Ceres)) and the boy is the fisherman who stoled her Hagoromo robe...
If the mikage family did not giver/show Aya that stone hand then Ceres won't go after Aki fighting him to bring her Hagoromo robe!
There is a big connection with the hand/fisherman/Aki!!!

The mummy hand... I always thought it was Ceres's hand. But I suppose what with her reaction toward it (utter vehemence), it's safe to say that perhaps it was Mikagi's instead.

Well they won't be part of that legend! Aya and Aki do have Aunts and Uncles, right? So it means that they is must be a male and a female twin, to have ceres to be reborn!
BTW those are only assumptions... that is what I think is going on right this moment! I must continue with the story to see weither I'm right or wrong :)
I've only seen the first six episodes
