Neon Genesis Evangelion The thing at the beginning of each episode

I am not able to watch the beginning of an epsiode to exactly describe what i am talking about so ill try to explain it from memory.

Ok at the beginning of each episode they show some type of object i think it is outlined in red against a black background. Anyways the object looks like a rope tied in knots and seems to have wings on it. And this object when shown fades into the background.

ive been looking all over to try to find out what it is, and all i know from searching is that it is not the tree of life. which is also shown in the series.

 

I think i know what you mean. It looks like the angel-parrot face with a bunch of wings. I think it was a symbol they made just for the series, but I could be wrong. The angel face just kinda makes me think it's original

 

It's been a while since i've seen the programme. But it sound's like the egg of Lilith or something. ...... I can't be to sure.

 

I heard somewhere that it was the religeious interpretational picture of the 3rd angel... but then i only heard it & no proof so meh, the face confirmed it for me though :/

 

i finally found some pictures of it. another forum i was at someone suggested it might be a seraphim, but he didnt know for sure. now if someone can tell me how to post it i will, or i could send them to someone or whatever? it was suggested to me that it might be a picture of a seraphim.

 

Just go down to "Additional options" on your reply (2nd blue box, below where you type) & go to "Attach files" & go from there, you may have to alter your picture if it's to big, but the upload thing will tell you that

 

aight thanks for the help on uploading a picture. the pictures i got are to big so ill have to downsize them first. i had to use ms paint so bear with me

hey its got 12 wings right, I think I heard somewhere that the twelve winged angel is the devil

(and before any idiots start mouthing off at me the devil was originally an angel, I know most of you know that but some people are fools who ruin it for the rest of us :anger2: )

 

I wonder how many people realize Seraphim is another name for an Angel? (well it means angel)

I always thought it was just some weird image GAINAX just put in the opening to mess with our friggin' heads and knowing Anno I'm probably right

It does resemble the 3rd angel in the face, but that's where it ends.

probably just an original symbol to give people an idea when they see the opening, particially what this show is about.

 

maybe someone should email Gainix and ask them what it is? i would since i started the topic but Gainix's site is in japanese(i know there is an english version of the site, i was there) which tells me it is probably pointless for me to send them an email in english. so maybe one of you people out there will be generous enough to send an email in the quest of furthering our knowledge?

 

Actually Seraph would be another name for an angel, the im is a plural ending, like the s on the end of angels. But yeah, you're right

Rogziel, thanks for putting the pics up, i wasn't sure what you meant and it was bugging me And just FYI, if you save as something other than bmp (like jpg) the picture could be much larger without taking up more room.. no matter though, in this case it was certainly clear enough!

thanks for the tip MamiyaOtaru. it was my first time posting a pic and i didnt know better.

there is two reasons why i started to ask abou the pic.
1. It looked cool, so i wanted to know what it is
2. i thought it would look good as a tattoo (maybe on the back, like where the top of it is in between your shoulder blades, so it can be a big tat)

 

Seeing as noone seemed to notice the first time I posted it, it is the Tree of Sephiroth, aka the Tree of Life.

 

Yargh, the thing we're talking is BEFORE the tree of Sephiroth, in the opening. The angel thingy goes back and then you see the tree scroll up. Ya know, the weird thingy that looks like the 3rd angel.


Either that or I'm screwed and thinking the wrong way... cause I'm positivly positive the tree in the opening after the angel thing is the same tree in Gendo's office, which is the tree of sephiroth. I'm positive, unless I'm making some mistake...

 

Sorry no one came in and said "oh wow! you are right!" I think we all noticed your post, but as you posted basically no evidence for your assertion, it looked just like every one else's guesses.

The tree of Sephiroth does indeed appear in the anime (see attachment) but frankly it doesn't look a whole lot like the pic Rogziel posted. I'm not sold.

Feel free to show me that the Sephiroth is sometimes depicted like Rogziel's pic (it wouldn't surprise me), but until them I'm going to have to count your posts (both of which I've noticed) as guesses like anyone else's.
