Video Games The Truth (and History) Behind it All.

So you know the inside (and outside) of PSO. You're a master level with a L200 mag. But do you know the history of the Algo system?
Do you?

It all started with a uber1337 company called Sega. They decided they wanted to do something new, take gamers in a new direction. In 1987, Phantasy Star was born. In 1988 it was brought here. It featured 4 characters, Alis, Myau, Odin and Noah in a quest to defeat the Once-Good-But-Now-Evil King Lassic and avenge Alis' brother's death. Along the way, they encoutered many evil...things...and the Dark Force (Darkfalz...come on. It sounds like a Romanization error.) itself, a pure manifestation of unyielding evil. It was the first game to use a 4mb cart, FM sound, and Full 3-D in it's Dungeons and Towers.

The game was a hit.

1000 years pass.
Or was that more like one year?

Phantasy Star 2 is released in 1989. It chronicaled the adventures of Rolf, as he investigates the causation of "Biohazards" (read:"Monsters that eat you") all over the planet Mota (short for Motavia, no doubt!) The Dark Force returns again, Causeing more trouble, and corrupting the Mother Brain which controls the ecosystems on the trio of planets (Parma, Motavia, and Desoliz). ROLF TO THE RESQUE!

A few more eons (aeons?) pass.
And another year.

1990 brought about the worst PS game. Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom is like that song that you absolutely hate; it tried too many new things and failed. It's the story of the Landen Prince Rhys, his Orakian fianceé Maia, her kidnapping, and all his offspring, and his offspring's offspring! (It's called Generations of doom for a reason, y'know.) Along the way, they meet up with two cyborgs, Wren and Mieu. (Note: Wren appears in PS4, but its not really Wren...The one in PS3 is a Wren-type Alpha and the one in PS4 is a Wren-type Omega, or some such crap.) Anyway, Wren and Mieu journey with Rhys, then with Rhys' kind, and then with Rhys' kids' kid. They just don't leave you alone once you find 'em! Anyway, Dark Force, evil city, Megid, Boom. Game over.

But Dark Force leaves a warning, a prophecy, if you will, that states that he'll be back in another thousand years. This prophecy sets the scene for my all time favourite PS Game. (Yes, more than PSO.)

Phantasy Star IV: End of the Millenia was a knockdown dragout HARDASS RPG. This one takes place in the Algo System, although it starts off on Motavia. Due to the collapse of Mother Brain, the economic stabilizers have gone positively wonky and have started crankin out monsters by the bushel, along with killin the planets slowly. Centred around the magnificent Six-Stroke Alys and her clumsy teenage sidekick Chaz, the duo of hunters sets off (initially) to rid Motavia Acadamy of its monster problem...for a price, of course. After dispatching the monsters, they discover that a cult leader/ voodoo dude named Zio is controlling his cult. But what is controlling Zio, and what will be the Algo System's fate??!

 

Phantasy Star Collection for GBA has been out out (which contains the first three games), and I believe that the fourth installment is on its way. So everyone can check out these classics if they don't have the old systems.

They're remaking PS1, 2, and 4 for the PlayStation 2, complete with new graphics engines and everything (think of the NES Final Fantasy for PlayStation 2 remakes). It will be Good.

I can't wait to see what PS4 is gonna look like on a modern console... *drool*

Seriously, tho, this may be the push i needed to buy a PS2 ^_^= I CANNA WAIT!

 

Screw Triblaster, I wanna see Grand Cross! I still don't have a ps2 myself, but when I have some spare cash it's high on my priorities list..

Grand cross? I hardly ever use that tbh. Its triblaster all the way, with a NaWat, NaTsu, and NaFoie, kills stuff dead.

 

Grandcross was the BEST, against almost all monsters it was a solid 600~800 damage, especially on Rykros and in the last dungeon.. Plus it only needed Chaz and Rune, leaving the 3rd member from Triblaster open to using something else...

Not to mention it looked way cooler than Triblaster
