You may or may not know that there is a virus currently spreading across the web. I have had five e-mails containing the virus sent ot me in the last week. Thankfully, I did not open any of the e-mails, but deleted them all instead. If you recieve an e-mail containing the virus, DO NOT OPEN IT. Delete it right away.

You can recognise the virus easily beacause the subject of the e-mails containing it are always in spanish, and the e-mails are 319K in size (at least they are in my case). Also, the sender may well appear to be someone you know, but don't be fooled - this is part of the virus' trick. If some one is unfortunate enough to get the virus, it will then forward itself to everyone listed in the address book, appearing to be sent from them, or other people in the address book.

Dang straight worms suck. First off, they're quite easy to spot, as you usally get multiple mailings of them at identical size.

The more recent batch are worse, totalling about 200k apiece. Clogs and fills my inbox very quickly.

Speaking of Email stuff like spam, and viruses,
Does any one know a good filter that works, I have tried to filter my email with the Hotmail one but it does the oposite it puts most of the real mail in the junk folder and my inbox is still always full of junk mail.
It is so much easier and funner to mess with telemarketers, but if you ever email a spam guy you get like 1000 other mails form them. I had to quit using an email becuase i replyed once and said "please do not send me this"

A filter? Norton. Anti-virus automatically scans emails, should you enable the option. I don't know about earlier versions, but 2003 does. Well, *that* is for virii.

As for spam filters, they actually do have a program for that. Try out www.download.com and just search for spam. Should bring a few programs, freeware or shareware, to your attention. My advice? Set it to sort by public rating. Helps out a lot.

One way is to abandon this email account where you are getting all these suspected virus emails and create a new one.

The only problem with changing accounts is that my e-mail address is all over all my websites, in my member profiles for goodness-knows how many sites I've joined, plus all my friends know my old address. It would be too hard to change! But, I'm sick of this virus - it's been a week now and they're still arriving, about 5 a day - does anyone know if they'll stop, or if this will carry on indefinately?

have you thought about putting it into a block list? or maybe reporting the email address to it's a abuse addy. it's usually abuse@domain.com like if it were coming from a hotmail addy, it's abuse@hotmail.com. and well, sometimes life is better with an email change...i haven't had any probs, but i also don't open it if i don't know the name, nor the subject. my hotmail filter works pretty well tho...now that it's been tweaked for 2 years...lol
(and yes, i get loads of spam...pr0n sites do that to ya...sigh)

But the e-mails are 'appear' to come from my friends addresses, so won't I end up blocking my friends, too?

Problem is, I get a shitload of e-mail in various languages, but thanks for telling me the size of the e-mail. This will make it easy to spot.

Arg! Why is it so hard for people to understand how to not get virii! DON'T OPEN WHAT YOU DIDN'T REQUEST! It's not rocket science, folks. If you have friends that send you a lot of stuff, ask them to simply send a confirmation email along with each email they send, to verify that it's really from them. If people just used common sense, 99% of the virii out there wouldn't be an issue...
