Ok,it was hinted that the leader of SEELE was someone who lived forever, right?

Well,in EoE,you find out that he wasnt completely human, that he had robotic parts. Why did he need that if he was immortal?

I dont think he had them all of his life, that technology wasnt around,so theres no way.

    So,does anybody know?

Keel, as said in the symbols forum, could represent the Wandering Jew. Well, other than to make him look menacing, I'm thinking that it's symbolic to how much man came to rely on technology.

It might as well be that, a few generations ago, though immortal, Keel may have been way below functional levels. Or, just that, he was "reborn" and well, needed the transplants somehow.

Or, another reason may be that he may not have needed those robotic parts, but those were voluntary things. I don't think he needed that visor, exactly, but you never know what it actually DOES. It might be access to documents pertaining to the dead sea scrolls, or just plain high-security/surveillance type things.

    *shrugs*

I just think it's really the symbolism thing, myself.

He just wanted to look "cool", IMHO :D

Or maybe it's just something Anno overlooked.

I wasnt nitpicking, most of the times with Eva,the small things mean alot to the series, and who is not to say that there wasnt a reason for the robotic upgrades?

I agree with Izzy's first and last possible answer, with the last, you never do see the scrolls in the series,so he might have them for viewing in that visor. It makes sense.

When did it say he lived forever? It's quite simple. He had to stay alive to see that the 3rd Impact was carried out. To do this he must have gotten various life support devices (eg. the robotic spine and visor.) so he could stay alive long enough.

It was hinted in the series,as with most things in Eva,there isnt a 100% answer.

Have none of you considered that it might be the implants that actualy make him imortal? If not, you should hang your head in shame. In shame...

Yes we have,he's supposed to be a from ancient times, back then they didnt have that technology so it was installed recently, and he still managed to live from then all the way to when the series took place, there is no way he could have had those all his life.

You mean, something like in Robotech? Completely possible! I mean, if the SDF-1 was from an ancient civilization, who's to say that Keele's implants came from wherever the Angel's did. :D

Even though some ones imortal, it does not mean there invunrable, meaning that if they got cancer it would destroy organs, if they got shot it would blow cunks out of them, thus Keel was proably a crippled man or somthing and got boinic implants.

That's debatable. Maybe in another circumstance they could still be killed, but don't you think a character who could resemble a religious person who can ONLY DIE when Third Impact comes would.... be only able to die at that point?

Im not saying he could die, just get hurt and damaged. Imortality is very diffrent from invunrablity ;)

The whole point of the third impact (Instrumentality) was for all being to be merged into one being & thus be the perfect creature (or something like that... scratch the perfect being part) & he could have just trying to be staying alive long enough to make sure it goes to plan & be part of the merge... it was why every one turned into LCL (Mind you ive not seen all of EoE... so this is just based upon what ive seen thus far)
