I can make some assumptions about this, first off there is nothing that
says this isn't real. I wouldn't have called it "promo only", because it
isn't a promo, I'm near certain its for distribution to BBC affiliates
in other parts of the world. Never seen one of Tomita, then again he
wasn't exactly doing a lot of live shows or had albums on the charts.

The question of course is did the BBC legitimately let someone have it
or did someone take it out the back door? That might be why its called
"promo" because the promo copies reviewers get of new albums aren't
technically supposed to be resold (but no one rarely cares), but this is
something else, nothing to do with journalists, it wasn't meant to leave
the BBC affiliates it went to, but who knows, maybe they had a garage
sale or gave em away later.

Also as I understood it, Tomita didn't really play much (or anything?)
at that show himself, he's using tapes, so while there may be some
edited versions or variations its not exactly like new stuff except for
    the synth demo

  3. Well there is such a thing I think, here's a picture from a previous auction on eBay:

Description follows from the other sale.

  4. Dare I say it (and as Nick says) that most of it is pretty much
'unperformed' as such, and similar to the Space Fantasy section of the Tale
Of Genji concert in London & Los Angeles in 1999, i.e. basically
    pre-prepared tape playback.

As you can imagine, as the worlds biggest broadcaster, the BBC archive is
immense (they'll be re-releasing 'Dads Army' at al on DVD for the next 30
years probably!), but in the 1970's undertook a totally insane mass-erasing
program of master tapes of all kinds of TV and radio productions. This was
'to save space' apparently. So this record may be truly rare. I wonder if
the winner will archive it off the CD? ;-)

As a former BBC freelancer, I'll try and think of who I could ask who might
know about this type of archive material.
