    Baked Mostaccioli

    "Christmas" Ham -

Take a small, 2 lb turkey ham from the store, slather with brown sugar and mustard, microwave for 15 minutes, serve with overcooked veggies.

I kid you not. This was an annual thing, especially on Easter. On my birthday (the ones that didn't fall on Thanksgiving) I made baked Mostaccioli. Yum yum!

    8 oz. Mostaccioli (16)
    1 lb. hamburger (2)
    1/2 lb. Italian sausage (1)
    1/4 c. chopped onion (1/2)
1/4 c. green peppers, chopped (optional)
    1 clove garlic, minced (2)
    1 (28 oz.) can tomatoes, pureed (2)
    1 (8 oz.) tomato sauce (2)
    1 (6 oz.) tomato paste (2)
1 tsp. salt (1 tsp. enough)
1 tsp. sugar (2 tsp.) or use white soda
    1 tsp. basil (2 tsp.)
    1/8 tsp. pepper (1/4 tsp.)
    1 lg. bay leaf (2)
    1/2 c. Parmesan (1 c.)
    1 (6 oz.) pkg. Mozzarella (12 oz.)

Cook pasta in boiling salted water until almost tender. Drain. Cook beef, pork, onion, green pepper and garlic until browned. Drain. Add tomatoes, sauce and paste and seasonings. Add 2 cups water, cover and simmer 30 minutes. Stir in Mostaccioli and put in 9x13x2 inch pan.

Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. Place Mozzarella cheese (in serving size pieces) on top and bake 5 minutes more.

I usually have friends over to bake/decorate cookies a few days before Christmas, but I don't think I'm doing it this year, as most of my friends are travelling.... I'd do it myself, but I don't trust myself not to eat everything that I bake, so ... ^^.

And shrimp! On Christmas morning! Yes, it's weird, but when aren't things weird in my house? =P

Why do so many people eat shrimp on Christmas day? Seriously, is it a trend or tradition, what?

For the past few years I have made a tradition of making sushi and getting other oriental snacks for New Year's Eve, I hope we can do something this year :(

and shrimp rings are, as I always thought, intended for special gatherings or occasions, and Christmas is a big one..

Actually, tonight I made this. Not very christmas-y or traditional, but damn good with a nice Cabernet Sauvignon.

For my family it is Thanksgiving turkey and Christmas ham.

For both we have home made caramel rolls.
