Shingetsutan Tsukihime Tsukihime and Melty Blood : Some things about the Game/Story

Please read no further if you haven't at least seen all of the anime or if not, played the game.

Tsukihime is a famous dojin game in Japan which was non-commercially created by TYPE-MOON. It contains violence and pornographic scenes, as well as the occult, vampires, magic and religious topics.

Melty Blood and Kagetsu Tohya are sequel games to Tsukihime.

Unlike Melty Blood, where you only choose who will fight,Tsukihime is a visual novel in which you decide where you will go, what you will say and what you will do. There are different endings for the different choices you make along the way.(which is true in life, no?) If the choices you make are good ones, there are 9 endings you may reach : 3 Good, 1 Normal, 5 True Endings. There are about 30 bad endings in which in many Shiki dies but some of the 'good' endings are also very sad.

The Main structure story of this game is on which of the 5 heroines
Shiki Tohno falls in love with, and which one of them falls in love with Shiki
The heroines are: Arcueid, Ciel, Akiha, Hisui and Kohaku.


Here's some information on characters I found the most interesting:

Shiki Tohno (Nanaya = Seven Nights):

Born into the Nanaya family, a family of demon and vampire slayers. Shiki was
trained vigorously as a slayer, yet has no memory of this. The Tohno family slaughtered his family, since they were a threat to the demon blooded
clan. Akiha's father, Makihisa, adopted Shiki, since he thought it interesting he had the same name as his own son, Shiki.
When he was nine,he protected his sister from Shiki and was injured. After this, he received 'the eyes of direct death'. After he recovered, he was adopted by the Arima family, a branch off Tohno. The OVA starts eight years later at the point where Akiha's father has died and Shiki is called back
to the main house.
The Nanaya have slaying impulses towards vampires and demons. This is why Shiki went crazy and cut Arcueid up into 17 pieces in the OVA. After the incident, he can see the death lines and dot of any object or living thing. An existence will be wiped out from the face of the workd if pierced through the dot.
Opposed to the Tohnos, the Nanayas received their power through their own training. The family has an awesome ablity to assassinate demon hybrids. Shiki may have been adopted into the Tohno family to act as a counter force for when their powers became uncontrollable, yet Shiki did not know any of this.
Shiki is seen as a gentle, weak highschooler, yet when the blood of the Nanaya awakens in him, he becomes someone who can kill immortals. He also struggles with the urge to kill in front of Akiha and others with demonic blood.

Ciel:

Ciel, born in France, was the 17th reincarnation of Roa, after Arcueid killed Roa in her form, Roa moved on to another host, and Ciel 'resurrected' after 3 years in the Vatican (morgue?). She was hunted and the Church killed her many times, relented and commissioned her as executioner for supernatural beings.(It would be interesting if they say the whole witch hunt in France was really a hunt and killing of Ciel so many numerous times)
She can only live as a normal human and die once Roa is defeated for good.
As Roa, she became a vampire and she performed many sins in this form.
The reason she resurrected after dying is open for discussion. Yet, it may be due to her natural magic ability. It's also been stated that it's a paradox that Roa keeps resurrecting, so 'The Universe' solves this contradiction by keeping Ciel, the 17th Roa alive. So, as long as the 18th Roa is alive, so must the 17th. This makes Ciel lucky, but as well cursed to live on knowing what she did as Roa.
Ciel has two weapons, the 'Black Key' which she can throw at people and a conceptual weapon, the 'Seventh Holy Scripture'.
Creating her battle costumes is a hobby of hers.
Teacher Ciel appears after a bad ending to give a helpful lesson, but Arcueid in cat form comes in and gets in her way.

Akiha Tohno (Autumn Leaf):

Akiha has demon blood within her(this is the result of the family centuries ago mixing their blood with that of a demon to gain powers). When the demon blood in Tohno family members fully awakens, they are called 'crimson red vermillion'. I believe this is why Akiha's hair was turning red. If it became all red, she would have fully awakened. It's the job of the Head of the Tohno family to kill fully awakened members. She has some ability called 'cage hair' and can deprive body heat from targets by merely looking at them.

Shiki Tohno:

Akiha's real brother. He has stronger demon blood in him than Akiha. In one story arc, Akiha has to kill Shiki. When Akiha, Shiki, Shiki and Hisui were playing in the garden 8 years before,Shiki fully awoke his demon nature and went to attack Akiha. Shiki saved her, and she saved Shiki by giving some of her own life power to him(because of this there is some link between the two).
Makihisa, the father, then tried to kill Shiki, as a duty of the head of the family, but failed since Shiki was his son, and since Shiki stole life force from Shiki Nanaya.
After this, Makihisa imprisoned Shiki in a downstairs secret chamber and lied saying his son was injured and not fit to be the head, hiding the fact he had awakened.
Shiki has a similar power as Shiki Nanaya, though he can only pierce the source of life that will kill the body, while Shiki Nanaya's power will kill it's very existence and the living thing dying is the after effect of its existence being killed.

Kohaku (Amber) and Hisui(Jade):

Twins and children of Tohno's branch family, Fuiyou.
Their family has a special ability of 'sharing' in which they can enhance someone's mental, supernatural and physical powers. They were adopted into the Tohno family and Hisui was a cheerful girl who played a lot with Akiha and the two Shikis. Makihisa needed their sharing ability because he was losing his sanity with the special power he had. To activate the power

Makihisa must have sex with either Kohaku or Hisui

Kohaku is ten years old, lost her happiness and emotions and made Makihisa promise not to touch Hisui.
When Akiha found out, she stopped Makihisa. And when Kohaku found out, she started planning a revenge to kill the Tohno family. It seems she whispered to Shiki to kill Makihisa, he was released and he killed him.

Roa "Serpent of Akasha":

Roa was a magician before tricking Arcueid into turning him into a vampire.
He yearns for eternal life and his method is by possession. The next host/family is chosen before he dies, and when he dies he possesses a child of the family he chose and as the child grows older, Roa's personality appears/takes over. Arcueid and Ciel thought Shiki Nanaya may be the next Roa, but it was Shiki Tohno.
Because Roa tricked Arcueid, she 'fell' and killed all the True Ancestors.
Roa chooses host people and families by how rich/high society a family is and/or magical talent. Ciel had great magical talent, yet was poor. But the Tohno family is both rich and powerful in demon blood.
Since Roa jumps from one body to the next, the Church does not consider him a Death Apostle. The powers of vampires reflect their parent, in this case, Arcueid, and so his power reflects the power of the True Ancestor Princess.
In the end, Roa is killed by Shiki's ability.

Satsuki Yumizuka:

Her story was a real shocker for me. Yumizuka is Shiki's classmate. I was afraid she got killed off early in the OVA, but she never went to the restaurant.
Anyways, in the OVA there was a flashback of herself getting locked in the school's gym warehouse. After Shiki saved her, she fell in love with him.
She was supposed to be one of the main heroines of the game with her own story branch, but this was changed.
After she left Shiki after walking home from school with him, she was killed by Roa and turned into a vampire. She became an independent vampire right away and started hunting humans. Shiki found her a few days later and she professed her love to him, her anger at his failure to save her and her need to make him a vampire like her and live with her forever. Shiki found the strength to kill her and she thanked him as she turned to ash. Shiki regrets not being able to have helped her.

Aozaki Aoko:

She gave Shiki his glasses and gave him the will to live his life straight with meaning. She doesn't like her name so Shiki calles her 'Sensei'. He highly respects her.
A magician from the Mage's Association in England, she is known as the 'Magic Gunner, Miss Blue' and is one of the 5 magic users in the world. Aozaki has a sister that appears in Kara no Kyoukai and she stole the glasses from her sister and gave them to Shiki.


Nero Chaos/Fabro Rowan:

One of the Death Apostles/second type. Nero has taken in the lives of 666 beasts to remain alive/immortal.
Since this is more than any other vampire, the Church nicknamed him 'Chaos'.

Progenitors:

Progenitors are born as vampires, the manifestation of Force of Nature. If humans threaten the earth, true vampires will decimate and slaughter the humans.
True vampires don't need blood but lust for it. If they use their powers too much, the thirst for blood increases. If a true vampire drinks blood, they will then want more blood.
They then become 'archfiends' and hunted down and killed by the other true blood vampires. To avoid giving in to thirst and becoming an archfiend, true vampires go into an eternal sleep.

Death Apostles:

There are two types:
When true blood vampires drink human blood, their victims turn into something not human.They are first dominated mentally by their sire (the true blood, now archfiend) but may break free and hunt humans. Vampires who broke free from true vampires are called 'The 27 Death Apostles'
The second type are magicians who became vampires through their magical research.

Arcueid Brunestud:

Arcueid is the weapon of the True Vampires, a princess much more powerful than the others and who was born to hunt down the archfiends (True Ancestors/Vampires who tasted blood). After being tricked, losing consciousness and killing all of True Ancestors, she regained consciousness and chained herself in her "Millenium Castle Brunestud" She awakens when Roa becomes active and has been fighting him for centuries.
Arcueid's ultimate ablity is called 'Marble Phatasm', a power in which she can change an amount of space into what she desires.

Some info/story about Melty Blood:

Melty Blood is mostly a fighting game but features a long story mode.
Sion Eltnam Atlasia is a new character found in Melty Blood. She is an extremely talented magician/alchemist and can control people's bodies, read minds and steal knowledge from others. Shiki finds her really cute, but she doesn't know her own feelings until later.
A few years before, she joined in hunting down Warakia and got her own blood sucked. She feels hunger for blood, but isn't fully a vampire. She is now searching for a cure of vampirism.
Since Warakia made Sion a vampire, he can affect her by controlling her and when he dies, she will still remain vampire. Warakia is one of the 27 Death Apostles and a villain in Melty Blood.
He is also searching for eternal life. He has no body of his own and became a phenomenon known as Tataru. He is able to take the shape of people's fears.
ex. Becoming the Arcueid Shiki and Arcueid are afraid of, the one who has fallen to bloodthirst.
Arcueid called upon the Red Moon to change Warakia back into a vampire form, and Shiki killed him.
Warakia used to be an alchemist named Zubia Eltnam Oberon before becoming a vampire.

Another interesting character in Melty Blood is the Arima family's daughter Miyako Arima the adopted sister of Shiki. She believes Shiki doesn't want to stay at the Tohno house and in one story branch takes off to save him. She is very shy and also likes Shiki very much.

I have also concluded that the virus not to get is the 'Shiki Virus' since horrible things may happen to you, like dying, turning into a vampire, or just getting really really hurt.
