Alright, here's what is going on.

A few weeks ago, I cleared my hard drive. Whenever I log into the internet, all Jpeg and Gif pictures show up as an empty box containing a smaller white box with a red 'X' in it. Other pictures formats show up fine.
    My OS is Windows 98.

I have already tried Windows update, driver upgrades and internet preferences (to make sure I had the "show pictures" option checked). I also tried getting a hold of Microsoft, but it has been a week and they are no shows so far.

    Any new ideas?

Number one through nine had no effect. Are there any other options I should look into before I re-install windows?

    Also:
    - I am not running any other types of internet related programs (kazaa, spyblaster, Norton Anti-Virus and such) other than my normal connection programs.
    - A few times today, some select gif format only pictures would get displayed. For awhile, everything was showing up nicely here at M2A.

Did you real through all of step 10?

Provided you're not leery of editing your registry manually (if you aren't sure what you're doing it can really screw your system), there's a possibility you can fix things without a full reinstallation:

Click Start, then Run. Type in "regedit" into the box to get into your registry. Browse to that path and check that the code value is correct.

this should solve you navigation problems:

    1. get rid of I.E., it sucks
    2. download Mozilla Firebird or Firefox
    3. Downlad Opera
    4. try them both and choose the one you liked the best.

Mozilla has great navigation speed, and a wonderful pop-up blocker.

Opera has good navigation speed, a so-so pop-up blocker but has fantastic navigation through mouse gestures.

    hope it helps :anime:

Hey Chejo, thanks. No more boxes and/or Xs. I haven't had the time to download it until now. Might take some getting used to (never used anything other than Internet Explorer).

BMS, I didn't want to edit the registry myself. I would barely know what I would be doing.
