May be old news to avid Square Enix fans, but there's a great teaser site up for the next installment in the SaGa series:

    http://www.u-saga.com

It's Unlimited SaGa, a new creative curve for adventure seekers. The game info on the site totes it as a freeform RPG, one that changes in story or scope based on your input. Exploration options and a "Reel time" battle system are just a few more grand features that are being toted for this title.

Might be one game to watch for, expecially for SaGa fans.

Actually, released in North America just this last June 17th. If you're European, Atari's slated to release it Sept 19th of this year.

The reviews I've seen charge it with lack of plot (which is believable in a free-form style like it is) and difficulty (supposedly very challenging).

I shall buy it, don't really have a choice it being a square title. I'm not so sure about it from the site, but sure, we shall see.

I'd like to hear a concrete testimonial before I buy it. I mean, I'm in the middle of .hack and I still have to beat my Xenosaga, so it's going to have to be pretty darned impressive to convince me to shell out 70 clams for it, especially after how bad Saga Frontier was (the worst six bucks I ever spent).

Alrighty, well it was a few weeks ago, I was at my brother's place and we went down to our local EB to look for anything good. While we picked up RE: Dead Aim, I caught glimpse of Unlimited Saga and considering that I loved Saga Frontier, I picked this up and frankly, I'm definitely satisfied. Now for a bit about the game, and my experience/opinion

    About the game:
Once again, seven characters to start with, each with their own little plot (though not quite as interlinking as the others were). It's lost the free-moving capability and now, instead, there's a map in which you move the pointer and choose which city/town to go to, and in the town a new map comes up and you choose whether to go to a shop, blacksmith, etc. Dungeons are much the same, where you are shown in one room with different directions to go, and you choose which direction to go and it alerts you of any monsters (which may or may not attack you) and sometimes you may spring traps, which you have a chance to dodge. Then you can also find treasure chests which you have to pick the locks on and disarm traps (via a slot-wheel method). Has a sort of table-top RPG feel to it to me, but I don't know that just might be me. Also, weapons have a durability and each time an attack is used, it chips off one durability point. You can repair it at a blacksmith, and once said durability goes to 0 the weapon is useless until you get it fixed. Also, once again characters have Life Points (LP) along with HP. The thing is, even if your HP doesn't reach zero, you can still lose LP and once you lose all your LP the character is out until you get out of the dungeon (no items, though you can choose to "wait" a turn and heal some HP, but no LP). And enemies and bosses, too, work on the very same LP basis. Have to knock off all of its LP to finish it. The game relies a lot on side-quests as when you decide to go to an inn there's a section marked "Adventures", and while there's one that progresses the story (which is fairly obvious) each city/town also has their own little side-quests. And, finally, there's the Skill Panels. There's a hive-shaped panel where you can fit seven (I believe, may be more or less never really counted) skills, which can consist of Lockpicking, Disarm (traps), Sword Arts, Dagger Arts, Spear Arts, Swimming and so on. Then there's different levels, IE Lockpicking Level 1, Lockpicking Level 2 and, pretty self-explanatory, the higher the level the more chances you have of hitting a success in picking the lock. As for the levels of weapon Arts, the higher the level, the easier it is to learn that level of techniques for said weapon. I could go on and on about the different things in this game, but I'd be here for a while.

    My thoughts:
Frankly, I liked the free moving in Saga Frontier 1 (though I've never played 2 so I don't know what that's like). Though even with that taken away, the game is still great in my opinion, and I believe it's rather challenging. The look (graphics wise) is absolutely awesome, in my opinion (of course no life-like or mock life-like FMVs like the later FFs, but still looks great and the animation is just, well, great). However, it's a more love it or hate it sort of thing, I would think, so you should might consider renting it first before really comitting yourself to it.

Well said. I'll consider a rental. 70 clams is a lot for something I may hate.
