I just stumbled on to 5 mp3 tracks on usenet of Kronos doing Kraftwerk.
Kind of funny to hear things turned the other way, acoustic stringed
classical instruments performing music that was written for electronics.
Not bad listening...I wonder what i would think of it if I never heard the
    Kraftwerk stuff...

Besides being a wee bit off topic its the Balanescu Quartet not Kronos
AFAIK. They did a half album of Kraftwerk and a half album of David
Byrne solo covers on an album called "Possessed". It should be pretty
easy to find and has been out for years. One of the Byrne tunes is
itself a cover of the "One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest" theme.

Harder to find is their album of YMO tunes since its a Japan only
release (it was on Takahashi's label so it definitely had his support).

Takahashi once did a techno cover of the "One Flew Over the Cukoo's
    Nest" theme.

Synergy? ...:) Well Lary Fast just did his own version of Ravel's "Pavane"

Even better, Byrne was the host of the PBS TV live concert series
"Session at West 54th St" for a year and he invited them on (they played
various pieces, not just Kraftwerk) then joined them doing the vocals
    for "The Model".

...Though Maywa Denki once did an electromechanical cover of "Pocket
Calculator" without synths (they do servo control playing of acoustic
instruments)... and Michael Jackson wrote lyrics for YMO...And of course
Isao Tomita was once covered by the Boredoms...

I guess that's one of the minor hazards of newsgroups. The files are posted
as being Kronos and it sounds close enough that I believed it. thanks for
the update Nick...the music sounds good anyway.
