    I just got Vampire Hunter D today, and I loved it. I can't believe it only cost me six bucks.
    Anyway, what did y'all think about it? It reminds me of a really good game of D&D.
    I'd also like to know if any of you have played the video game, and if it's worth the cost to buy, which my sources tell me is quite high.

    So you liked Vampire Hunter D? What version did you watch? Probably the uncut version, if I understand your tastes properly, did you actually get the sub?
    From me, the uncut Vampire Hunter D version got a 'D' rating, it didn't carry any real depth... just brainless blood and guts from my perspective, oh, yeah, and don't forget the 'gratuities'. Cool sword or not, he was an 'all-powerful' lead character, and he knew it... he was almost... a villain. I like to see those types get the snot beat out of 'em. How about you? I suppose that suspense has no draw for you. The 'on-the-edge' feeling of not knowing the outcome, where you just might see your favorite character die.
    I suppose this will get me some bad karma, but I just felt like ranting all over Vampire Hunter D, and I guess, indirectly, your ace.

    Time to go against my usual peace talk. It's time to cry havoc and let loose the dogs of war:

    ZANSHI! ZANSHI! ZANSHI!!!!! [IMG]!!
    "If you understand my tastes properly"?! WHAT THE HELL IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?! Do you think that just because I love action, even sans plot that you are somehow my superior? And what's with that crack about the cut version? If you did "know my tastes", you would know that I abhor all forms of cutting, restrictions, and alterations of the original! And as for suspense, I find it builds drama immensely, and if you truly knew anything about my taste in entertainment, you would know that with drama I am obsessed.
    You, good sir, and I use the term loosely, are in no place to demean my opinion. We have never even met , let alone spoken enough for you to be able to make any true assessment of my personality.
    You have insulted my honour! [IMG] I demand retribution! [IMG]

    I loved Vampire Hunter D, I think it had the same feel to it that Seven Samurai did.

    Whoa, calm down dudes. Javalamp, it's not like Vampire Hunter D is some kind of Ultimate Evil that deserves to be pursecuted or anything [IMG] .

    oops, I've sparked a bit more than I thought. I'll quote and clarify then
    <Clarify>
    I did not say I know your personality, I said, 'if I understand your tastes properly'
    (please place a strong emphasis on *IF*)
    lots of subjectivity there.
    </Clarify>
    <Extrapolation>
    As to the surroundings of that post, I should go back and change it, I was ****ed off at everything at the time, so I guess it spilled off against you somewhat.
    Have I insulted your honor? Maybe. It insults your honor if you decide to pursue this and be violent. I still disagree with your opinion on the Movie and I agree with your opinion on cuts of any type. However, any supposed slights against your personality were outgrowths of my extremely bad mood that night.
    </Extrapoloation>and, That Guy, no, Vampire Hunter D is not 'the Ultimate Evil' I merely said I like to see smug all-powerful characters get their trash whooped.

    What? You're the son of Dracula? That's why none of us stood a chance against you!
    (please refrain from thinking this is a slander against anyones taste, just think of it as a sharp insertion of my own tastes)

    Oh, it was just a term... It just seemed like you religiously hated Vampire Hunter D or something at the moment [IMG]
    *bows down in a corner feeling belittled [IMG]*

    Anything that has mythological(or non-mythological) monsters and stuff is great. Demon City Shinjuku, Tokyo Jushoden, Violinist of Hameln and the Castlevania series are all fav's of mine.

    I have no problem with that as a genre, I just don't personally like that movie

    <Edit>
    incidentally, I own Seven Samurai on DVD, I can't agree with you (That Guy) that Seven Samurai has the same feel as Vampire Hunter D.
    I could go into detail now, but a full comparison would take too long.

    I'm gonna have to agree with JavaLamp on the Seven Samurai thing. It's not nearly as dark, and is much more dramatic, with more focus on plot.
    In regards to the earlier comments, I will respect your opinions and hereby withdraw my comment.
    And now, here's a note to the pen-and-paper RPG fans out there:
    How do you think the characters of Vampire Hunter D would fit into the world of Vampire: The Masquerade by White-Wolf Games?
    Might be a cool crossover thing ...
