I'm getting Braces, you guys! o_0 Because of 2 teeth! I've never been afraid of them, but now that you mention it, everyone says it REALLY hurts to get them tightened! Should I just stick with a retainer? What do yall prefer? What's the huge diff?

I never really got braces before. But when I went to the dentist to check my teeth, they said that I needed to get braces. I was thinkin' like "NOOO!!!Braces?!NOOO!!!" I still don't have braces but I will have to get them pretty soon...:(

It all depends on the accessories. If you're also getting headgear, then braces would hurt more; however, if the retainer you mention would be the kind they tighten, that's the worst. It's the only oral apparatus I've not had, and my sister had it. She said it was like living through Hell every day. *shudders*

Anyway, I had braces about three or four years ago, for about four years. You get used to them, really. When they come out, though... *shudders again*

hehe, so you are getting thoes, eh? :p

Well, sometimes braces don't hurt when they are not very tight, which makes the process to finish them longer. I know so, I took up pain, and removed them after 1 year, while my cousin [who needed less time] didn't handle the pain and told the doctor to make them less tightened, so he finished after about 1.5 years :)

So, actually it depends on your situation, but believe me, its worth it ^^

You should've seen my teeth 5-6 years ago :p

[whoa!! I've been with and after braces for more than 5-6??! I am old T_T]

Ooh... I think I'll stick with braces! I'll get them tightened... I don't mind having them on half a year longer though... if it REALLY hurts that bad. Liek how bad are we talking? I've taken a LOT of pain before... but never my teeth and my mouth lol...

I dunno... everyone who has looked at my teeth can't tell at all that I need braces. They're absolutley perfect! But apparently there are a few teeth that will grow wrong unless I do something now.... so it sucks... XO

I know. I stole it because your mom said I could.

....lol, yeah I know that made no sense. o.o Hehe, people getting braces power! Yeah!

But what is a kid to do. :p Does getting your braces tightened hurt that much? I have'nt had mine tightened yet so I dont know. Just want a heads up. :anime:

It doesn't actually hurt when they get tightened. You just can't eat anything hard for the next few days. They are just really sensitive. But after a while you get used to it, so that when they get tightened you can usually eat the same day. :catgirl:

Well, speaking from nearly five years of experience here....

For the first several times, it does hurt after you've had your braces tightened and it's very difficult to eat chewy foods for a few days. However, after a while the time goes down, and by the end I could eat normally even after I had my braces tightened. It all really depends on how your mouth adjusts, I would think.

Those worried about lisping...it does go away after a while. You lisp for a while when you get your retainer too. Then you get used to having something in your mouth and the lisp goes away.

Well, it sounded like your problem was more cosmetic than anything else. Some people really need braces or they're going to have mouth problems later on in life. A lot of people do get them for just cosmetic reasons, though, which is probably why many insurance companies no longer pay for braces if there isn't a serious need for them.
